Shut it. It's pertinent to the pointNice humble-brag.

Nice humble-brag.
I have always followed the philosphy of not counting other people's money. You will be happier
Very telling if that's your interpretation. Anyway, don't hate, I support the Duck, got one kid at UO and my family vacations in Bend, I will stop in to Portland next week and give you a long, soft hug.
I think it's a good thing to bring up though. I'd wager that while I make what many would call a decent "middle class" wage, that my savings at the end of a calendar year are less than what someone of my calibre in one of those oppressive socialist countries has, even with their "60% income tax."
I have never been one of these people that said growing up in my time was harder than it is now
Truth is I feel it is so much harder now than in the 60s and 70s'. Back then there was a job for everyone that wanted a job. I paid every dime of my education cause I had part time work that paid $10/hr in the early 70s. Zero student debt. Paid off my mortgage 20 years ago on a 5000 sqft house. Paid every dime of my daughters high school and college education and a $30k wedding
Point is that I'm not sure that people can do that now. I feel bad for some of you nitwits. But not all of you
I actually had a union job at Good Humor while in college and the pay rate was $9.90/hour. I worked in their ice box filling orders for the drivers, was a part time book keeper and did some quality control. On top of that I could have as many hours as I wanted. I remember working 79 straight days with over time. So, it was easy to pay off my yearly college costs which I remember being around $3200/yrIf other threads are truth I am a couple of years older than you. I made 2.15 cents an hour washing dishes in 1970. No one I knew made 10 dollars an hour unless they were selling drugs. The best money I ever made was 5.10 cents an hour working for a furniture store in early 1972 before I joined the Navy.
I am proud to say I have worked my ass off for 39 years and I do make 6 figures with no college degree. I put 2 children through college and paid for a wedding the amount I will not disclose. But you can't sniff my job today without at least a BA in electronics. So I believe it is much tougher today to get where I have gotten than when I was young. No doubt. I received considerations in employment because I was a Viet Nam vet. Not so sure those kind of considerations still exsist for our brave men and women in uniform.

That's why I keep saying it's harder now then when I was growing up$3200 a year? That aint even half of a semester of tuition at a decent school now.
4 years of college for you cost around as much as 1 year of tuition at U of I's college of Engineering for me lol

WE'RE SUPPOSE TO GET AN EDUCATION THEN MAGICALLY HIGH PAYING JOBS WILL JUST COME TO US! COMEON NOW!Yeah it is actually a bit surprising to see you say that.... most folks in your generation shrug off the college costs of the modern day and mutter something about bootstraps but the debt most college educations incur is terrible.
I am envious of people I know whose parents ate the cost of their college education.

Well, you were still able to buy a house. So there is that.To be frank.... I have a high paying job in IT.... and it still isn't easy being weighed down by loans.

But yeah, student loans suck.
I think its easier for those who go into computer science to get a job than other fields at the moment... Not everyone can go into CS though.. And eventually it becomes so saturated that it won't be a desirable field.

You'd be surprised how many people get CS degrees and dont have any idea what they're doing when they get a job.Computer Science? I doubt it becomes a saturated field.... its not something that anyone can just do because it has a nice job market.
And yeah I am doing fine.... my point being that even with my degree and my job... if student loans can slow me down... I know they are crippling for other people in our generation who don't get into a high paying job or any job right away.
