if a mascot is getting paid 65,000... then why cant a cheerleader get paid similarly? If a team chooses to have cheerleaders, then they should pay them a reasonable wage. I dont see paying them as much as the mascot to be unreasonable

Yeah, good point. And if the CEO is getting $500K, why shouldn't the guys in the warehouse?

65k for basically a free ticket the the game, show up at a few trade shows - do some television commercials...yeah i'd do that in a heartbeat! that being said - nfl teams are taking advantage of cheerleaders the same way universities take advantage of their players (if that 1 million thing is true, which i have my doubts). If they're that valuable, why don't they unionize?

Because there are 100s, maybe 1000s of other women that would gladly take that job. If the cheerleaders tried to unionize, they'd all be working on street corners in a week, and NFL teams would have new cheerleaders the next day.

How are they taking advantage of them?

They voluntarily seek the job. They are not slaves.

They get publicity and it can lead to other opportunities. And don't kid yourselves if you don't think hooking up with players (making a lot of money) is one goal some of them have in mind.

Wasn't the last time the Bears had cheerleaders the last time we won a Superbowl?

I think the "Pay them zero, what they do is worthless" argument is kinda funny.... not disagreeing with it but if you go down that path then why the fuck do we pay NFL players millions to play a game that normal people, kids in college, kids in high school, etc will play for nothing, just for the fun of it? I know they provide entertainment which we as human beings have chosen to value enough that the business of the NFL makes enough to pay the players millions, but at the end of the day if the NFL were just gone tomorrow... we would all still get up and have water and food and go to work/school and do the same shit and live the same way, just with no NFL football.

I guess my point is if you start thinking about it too much, there are a lot of fucking worthless jobs in our society.... and we pay people to do all of them :D

Not to state the obvious, but at minimum they should be paid minimum wage for the hours they work.

I'm surprised that it took til the second page before this point was made.

By becoming a cheerleader of a professional sports team, these chicks are introduced to a brand new circle of men. They are not hanging around construction workers & garbage men. These chicks are hanging around pro athletes from every sport, actors, musicians, & team executives. They don't care about that $150 per week. They have a better chance than most women of hooking up with multi-millionaires.

Now, is there a chance that a rare church-going female is a cheerleader?..Sure, but the vast majority of them are probably not.

NFL cheerleaders are one of the most recognizable mainstays of the sport, rooting on their teams in extreme weather and performing stunning, difficult routines for millions of fans. But while cheerleaders bring in as much as 1 million dollars each season for their teams in merchandising and promotion, many get paid as little as $150 per game.

In fact, while cheerleaders do have some opportunities to do some outside appearances, many of these skilled athletes make less than $1000 per year. Comparatively, an NFL mascot can make as much as $65,000 per season.

Cheerleaders spend countless hours at practice each week, perfecting their routines, but aren’t paid for any of them. Being an NFL cheerleader isn’t just a hobby. The selection process for the few slots on each squad is competitive and each member is required to have highly specialized dance and athletic skills.

It’s time for NFL teams to step up and start paying cheerleaders a living wage and the teams in the play-offs, who have benefitted financially from their success, should set an example for the rest of the league.

Please join me in asking the teams headed to the Super Bowl, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, to commit to paying their cheerleaders a living wage for the work they do contribute to their respective franchises and the National Football League as a whole.

Highly debatable. Cheerleading in the NFL is nothing like it's counterpart in college or highschool. My wife was a two time national champion cheerleader and that shit was insane. In the pros, they don't do any of the acrobatic in air maneuvers. They're dancers and they're attractive.

I don't know for certain about each individual policy but I believe it's most team's policy that cheerleaders and players are not allowed to date. I know the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders specifically are not allowed to date the players. There's far too much risk of workplace sexual harassment and other similar legal issues.

As far as them getting paid more, the market pays what the market pays. It shouldn't be surprising that jumping up and down and yelling one day a week as a skill isn't going to pay a whole lot.

This is why NFL cheerleaders have day jobs. Anyone remember the Bengals cheerleader that raped a student...then married him? Bitches be wildin.

That doesn't prevent a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader from dating a member of the Chicago Bears.....or a famous actor that they meet at a team function....or a young executive of the Atlanta Falcons....or a starting pitcher for the LA Dodgers.

My point is that they are introduced to a circle that most women will never be accepted into.

This is about as much money as I make playing a band in a year. Definitely a hobby. If you know you're doing something and not going to make any money at it, then you go into it knowing that it's a hobby. This is making me irrationally angry.

So the church-going people are the good ones? C'mon Biggie, that's ridiculous.

Let's see, they get some of the best seats at the game and gain access to multi-million dollar athletes and entertainers that they can have a kid with and get millions in child support from. I am not even sure why they get paid $150. They should pay for that privilege. If they don't like it then get a real fucking job.
