I don't get it...

Good question. Maybe they are not willing to eat the 3.2 mil salary in the AHL? He has a no movement clause that kicked in after the TDL day I think.

I agree with 5 minutes though if they come to March and can improve the team for a winning run, that money will be freed up for additional space to afford which ever Center it is.

Yea... I guess it's not smart for ANY business to just basically "give away" 3.2 mil.... but as a fan I sure wish they would, lol.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
3.2M in the A vs. the money gained by a deep playoff push/cup win? Sounds like a no-brainer to me--maybe not now but near the deadline.

Smith > Stalberg.

so...yeah, hope it's just for conditioning, though I know better.

Yea, they just werent willing to put Stalberg through waivers. @ 850k he'd have been grabbed in a heart beat.

Hasn't any other GM seen his past 80 games? Unless someone needs a scapegoat, I doubt anyone would want him at this point.

Theres always a GM that wants to take a chance on somebody. Sergei Samsonov...Andrei Zyzen etc.

Samsonov was a #1 pick. His potential, though misleading, was always "there"...

Stalberg on the other hand... its very rare when a 6th rounder is gifted unless Detroit or the Hawks select you... and I don't exactly trust the Maple Leafs when it comes to the scouting department.

I thought the only reason he was drafted that low was some concern over him coming over? Maybe I'm misremembering all together.

I believe Stalberg played in one of the Canadian JR. Leagues, but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I could be thinking of someone else entirely... Otherwise, I totally agree with wolf, what has the guy shown to justify such a long period of "wait and see". I assume he had one hell of a career in juniors or AHL to really make him stand out as a 6th rounder? If it's just all about his speed then they might as well have kept Dan Jansen out there.

when he played for the Leafs, a lot of people thought he was the next big thing, and showed a lot of promise. But then again, he played in Toronto. They don't get prospects, so whenever they get one, they consider them the next big thing, the next top prospects

Toronto's Next Big Things: Matt Stajan, Nik Antropov, Justin Pogge, Alexi Ponikarovski, Alex Steen, Carlo Colaicovo, Alyn McCauley, Nik Kulemin.

some of these aren't bad players, but they aren't "next big things" unless they play in Toronto

I only recognize like 2 of those names... probably 3. And that's barely.

probably Steen and Colaiacovo, since they are actually the two best players on that list, and now play for St. Louis. They were traded there together for Lee Stempniak

god you gotta love the Leafs lmao
