Poles has low self esteem and is why he has an ego issue. I don’t know these things to be true but the evidence speaks to the contrary. I think he’s always trying to be the smartest guy in the room and BJ’s agent basically said that it was bc of Warren that he signed there and I believe him.

He did everything in his power to get rid of everyone that pace brought in and I get it to a degree but I’m not sure all the moves were correct and his drafting has been subpar for sure!!

Outside of the one thing he can lay his hat on was the first trade for pick 1. But half the guys on here would have done the same thing.

He constantly live vicariously through the low drafted linemen and look how that went. No clue! Ben Johnson is going to go over his head and when he wins this year vs last year, he will have more power than Poles.

I just hope BJ is who I think he is and we put together a respectable program! I think this year we are looking at 10-7 or better unless we get screwed with schedule again.

Nope, its not.

Jags fans think ian(and the bears FO) is actually pretty good if you go on their forums and reddit. They want ian.
Ian is not poles. And most fans have no clue who he is lmao.

Poles is definitely a joke nationally amongst pundits. I can tell you don't listen to enough content.

Bears fans - We would have 8-10 wins if not for Flus blowing all those games.

Bears fans - We would be in the playoffs with this roster if we hired Harbaugh.

Bears fans - This roster sucks and the team is really bad.

Never change CCS!
I think you’re right! Four huge problems on the team- 1. line play on both sides but mostly oline, 2. Coaching/winner/small stuff equals big results/focus attitude 3. Play calling on both sides after we fired Flus- I hate his style of let them hold the ball all day but hunker down between the 20’s but a lot of teams are doing the same thing, but I refer back to 85- **** that, bring em all 4. Better drafting

I think better coaching could have done wonders for this team's record. I guess we'll see next year, even with a roster mostly built for different schemes. Even BJ expected the Bear to challenge in division.

Every roster is loaded with talent. Some teams have really stacked rosters (like the Eagles)... but the difference between 10 and 20 is probably not as wide as people would think. For that difference... there are a lot of little factors that contribute. Can be some coaching... can be some bad days for players... can be luck... etc., etc.

The Bears aren't a terrible team. There's enough talent to compete. It's about winning all the various little things that add up to wins. When you have a loser mentality, it's easy to be on the losing side of those little things.

Yeah, except I don't even consume local media

I know you're a Poles rider, but he's been criticized considerably for his bonehead moves nationally. So like I said, I can tell you don't consume much content.

There was a huge amount of hype nationally about how Caleb Williams had the best situation for a #1 pick, maybe ever and how the roster was loaded at talent. Every cited the skill positions and how the defense finished so strong last year. Everyone, including the Bears FO, ignored the situation with the trenches on both sides of the ball and how that would affect everything else.

I am just hoping that Poles and whoever is his Asst GM focus on that this offseason and don't get distracted by any shiny 'skill' position players.

It will be interesting to see if they promote from within or find someone from outside the organization to fill the Asst GM role should Cunningham leave.

I hate ryan poles but the relatively recent interview with Ben Johnson's agent would suggest Poles respect around the league is better than most imagine.

So when you say national media you just watch ESPN or something?

It makes zero sense because the entire roster performed terribly this year.

Its clearly a coaching/culture issue. All these players didnt just magically become bad.

The fact ian Cunningham has had interst from multiple teams now shows that the bears FO is regarded a lot better than bears fans think.

Poles major mistake was keeping eberflus around. Who knows if he also had his hands tied in that decision, there have been conflicting reports on how much say he had in firing him.

People act like other GM's dont make roster mistakes too. Brett Veach has had plenty of swings and misses, FFS the guy drafted a trash RB in the first round.

If caleb williams performs to the level he was drafted at, Ryan Poles will look like a genius again. Having an elite NFL QB covers up a lot of roster issues.

Yeah, the 2 big mistakes were Eberflus and his OL evaluations.

I am really curious on that OL evaluation of how much of it is Poles personal evaluation which would be an ongoing issue vs him relying too much on other people (Cunningham? someone else?) that did the subpar evaluations.

The only thing is that was a low bar to clear. In retrospect, it was maybe not even true, but normally the No. 1 pick goes to the worst team in the league, so that’s where it was coming from. The argument wasn’t for 1st round picks or even just rookies in general. Other situations, like Big Ben, Russ, or Dak were probably better situations. But again, after the dust has settled, we were clearly all overrating what this was in Chicago.

I like Ian more than Poles but again I’ll take 2 3rds please. They were both almost fired this year and this is Ben Johnson’s show now. It’s best for the Bears and best for Ian’s career to take that job.

Oh I know, it was all relative to #1 overall, not 1st round pick. And that got lost in the media frenzy of talking about it. It was all based on the skill position players. And I think everyone outside of Seattle had no idea how bad Waldron would be.

Almost "fired" according to the SHITcago media driving a narrative.

It doesnt sound like poles job was ever in question

I mean in the sense it was a debate. I do believe they talked about it but Poles convinced them he has learned from his mistakes. I don’t believe they ever got to a point to seriously consider firing him.

Either way you never want your job to even be in question. Honestly would you have cared if they did fire him after the season? I wouldn’t have.
