Ok, now can you tell me the AV the the Bears current Starting RG?

So I could be wrong, but I believe no QB has ever been at his best when playing with less then 5 OL.

The Bears have 2. Instead of replacing an average player let's replace the one that currently doesn't exist.
Matt Pryor had a 6 AV and didn't even start the whole season. He did a solid job and definitely would have been about an 8 AV if he started the season. Add to that the fact that Ryan Bates is still on the team and was a RG for Buffalo where he also has had an 8 AV year his one year of starting.

FYI... Trey Smith was also an 8 AV in 2024 and his best year was a 10 AV.
He has never been an All-Pro and a one time Pro Bowler, but the Bears should break the bank and make him the highest paid guard in the NFL???

Pryor is a FA. As in not on the team and able to sign where ever he wants. I would like him back if possible as a backup.

My understanding is that Bates was pretty much done, maybe that's incorrect. If so then his is currently our starting center.

So if your going to use AV as some end all be all then I think it would be perfectly fine to use PFF as a counter.

Trey Smith 75.3 ( 14/77 G)
Braxton Jones 77.4 ( 21/81 T )
Ryan Bates 60.1
Ronnie Stanley 70.7 ( 37/81 T )

Bates is hypothetically the "starter" at center but he can just as easily play right guard. Pryor made $1M last season, I guarantee the Bears can afford to bring him back and would be wise to do so over spending $20M for a guy getting extra credit for what Patrick Mahomes does.

Braxton has missed a third of each of the last two seasons, his PFF numbers are estimates not truly comparable. Same goes with Ryan Bates who only has one season as a starter.

And Stanley, who is older, has missed significantly time 4 of the last 5 years. Except for last year, his contract year, when he was magically healthy all year.

As I already stated, Stanley has played more games than Braxton Jones has since 2022 when Braxton entered the league. Stanley has shown that he is healthy again after playing all 17 games. We can't say that for BJ 1.0...

Stanley is four years older but he has shown that he can be a probowl level player, Braxton has shown that he is good run blocker that can't anchor against a bull rush. Braxton should most likely be a RT on a good team, not protecting the blind side of a franchise QB.

Were not being asked to spend big $$$ on Braxton and even if you want to ignore Stanley's injury history for first two of the last five years. One "contract year" doesn't erase the previous two for an older and declining player who probably won't be better then Jones next year, especially for that price.

The answer to this hypothetical is Trey Smith, but KC isn’t dumb enough to let him sniff FA.

Its not about KC being dumb, its that KC is about to be in Cap hell because of the deals they have with Tunney, Taylor, Humphrey and Chris Jones and the deals they need to make with Karlaftis as well as their starting 3 LB's are all FA's after this next season too (Bolton, Channel and tranquil)

They cannot really restructure Mahomes deal anymore without extending the deal further and I think that is going to be an issue with the NFL PA.

So the reality is they don't have the money to resign Smith unless they somehow find someone to take the Juwaan Taylor contract off their hands and the word is out that he is just not that good.

I voted Stanley because Smith is a pipe dream and unlikely to even hit free agency
Kinda like how you said the Bears getting Ben Johnson as head coach was a pipe dream too huh dipshit????

I think you’re explaining exactly why the Chiefs may not re-sign Trey. Everyone seems convinced they will, but he isn’t some slam dunk superstar, especially if the team is resetting the market to keep him. Chiefs aren’t in the business of market setting contracts unless the guy is undeniably special. But I guess we’ll see.

Only hope I may see is if Kelce is out of the picture.

You should watch more tackle play. All tackles get driven back, including the one you want to draft in the first round.

Watch will campbell against dallas turner or jared verse.

The issue is when your tackle gets driven back, and your interior doesnt provide a pocket to step up into, it leads to sacks. This is why the bears oline has been shit for years.

Here is your hero Ronnie Stanley getting pushed back nonstop vs. trey hendrickson

Again, ever tackle gets pushed back. Bears fans just dont watch enough NFL tackles to realize this happens. Braxton isn't elite by any measure, but stanley wouldnt be much of an updrade if any, and cost a fuckton of money.

I'd rather take a guy who's weak against a bullrush every so often than a tackle who has slow feet like kelvin banks and gets beat by speed rushers.

there was no doubt Ben Johnson was going to take a HC gig, while there is no certainty Smith will hit free agency dipshit

1) this thread is about who you would want if they hit FA

2) there is a good chance he does hit FA, not a "pipedream" as the chiefs may not want to pay a guard 20-25m a year, particularly in a draft strong in interior OL

Obviously there is a chance he comes back, but you could say that for the majority of current expected FA's.

@msadows has ragged on Caleb since the 2nd game of last season now he's preaching hope will change everything, OK CCS, stick that in your memory bank and eealize you're fauked, things are always the opposite of what he preaches, never deny basic @msadows history
