I don't know what you do when your bats are mired in a slump like this. You're only hope is pitching and defense and timely rallies. That hasn't happened but I'm not sure there are any lineup shifts that will make it better. They'll hit, or they won't.
Defense? I guarantee you that Contreras would have made better throws to the bags. Defense first? Someone is pulling your leg, IMHO. I do not blame Maddon for the hitting. He cannot take AB's for his players. The issue is they aren't aggressive after first time through and letting good pitches go.

It's two fucking games against two of the best pitchers in baseball this year. If you want to extend it to the Giants series, the Cubs have faced the following pitchers and their rank among starters for FIP this season

Cueto - 7
Jeff Z - 51
Bumgarner - 12
Moore - 74
Maeda - 27
Kershaw - 1
Hill - 4

The only guy who you're like "that's not expected" was Moore.

You misunderstand me. Yes they've gone against good pitching, that's why I'm saying I don't think you go radical on the lineup. Your bats just have to come out of it against a pitcher they can hit. Could be Urias. Then you probably start hitting against better pitching.

The Cubs need to turn this series around. Seriously, it's 12 months and 170 games to get back to this point. Damn man it just needs to go farther this year!

The good news: Urias isn't a top ten pitcher in baseball
Bad News: The Cubs have looked awful against lefties with breaking balls this playoffs (Moore, Hill, Kerhsaw) and Urias is another one.
Guess at the lineup

Fowler - CF
Bryant - 3B
Zobrist - 2B
Rizzo - 1B
Baez - SS
Soler - LF
Contreras - C
Almora - RF
Lackey - P

I mean this is what you pay Lackey for, to win games when you're down 2-1 on the road, in the playoffs.

Our guys aren't hitting but Hill was pretty good after that 2nd inning, that curve from multiple angles is nasty. He was beatable until then and we didn't execute.

Really don't give a crap what Metric Mary Dan has to say...bottom line is that this guy threw 90% curve balls and even though they had to know what was coming, they couldn't do anything with it. Big HR cuts when they could easily lay back and drive his pitches the other way....not very smart baseball.

Maybe I'm mistaken....but don't the Dodgers have to win two more games after this one? If someone just walked into this forum, they'd think this was game 7.

Cubbies just want me to have to fly to Chicago for my game 7 tickets.

If there's any positive to this game, it's that they're using Jensen for a four out save potentially in a game that they were leading 4-0, limiting his potential effectiveness for games 4-5 when you assume the game will be closer.

When most of hitters are hitting below .200 and Dodgers are going to trot out both Kershaw and Hill 1 more time, plus Maeda who don't exactly suck..

Kinda lose a little faith in these guys to win 3 of 4 games

Not really likely as they've struggled to hit lefties who throw curveballs, something Kyle struggled mightily with last year (.143/.213/.268 with a 44.3% K rate against LHP).

good reply.

And the Dodgers had the Dbags, Padres and SF who were tanking the whole second half. What a silly comment. Shut the front door.
