Do you remember last year when teams spent all night making layups and getting offensive rebounds?

I can’t comment on Curbelo other than to say I am very happy to see him doing well. What you are posting is very good news.

But let’s just recognize the difference in the interior D this year.

Their interior defense is better, but they also don't let guys get into the paint as much. When they do they get run. Witness MSU, when they played soft off the high ball screen and gave up layups all night.

Both Kofi and Gio need to stop jumping so much.

Where Kofi transforms things most is with the easy buckets and rebounding imo.

Underwood needs to pull the trigger and let Griffin start over Damonte. I do prefer it when Trent brings the ball up

You want DaMonte, Kipper and Feliz off the bench? Not a great combo. I think Alan is fine as the 6th man as long as he’s getting 23-25 minutes a game and on the floor at crunch time.

Solid win but we have to win our home games. Would have been very disappointing to have dropped this one.

17 rebounds for Kofi. Not nearly as important of a recruit as Curbelo. Illinois gets players who have that type of production on the glass all the time.

Ayo won that game for them today. If anything, he's the most important recruit on the floor.

And you're really so butthurt that this is your first post after that tough win? Next you should tell me how much you donate to the I Fund, that'll show everyone what a great fan you are.

I made an off handed comment in a much larger post, you jumped on it, we argued, and you can't let it go, even after a big win. There won't really be an answer to who was the more important recruit for a few years.

You made a dumb post and can’t admit it. Without Kofi there isn’t nearly as much winning this year. They completely changed the defense, because of him. Ayo was the most important recruit in many years. He was willing to be an entrepreneur and help rebuild the in-state school. He/Chin opened up Chicago to Illinois for the top recruits after Weber wouldn’t do what was necessary. Next year they got Kofi. Next year they get Curbelo. Arguing that Curbelo is the most important recruit since Deron is beyond idiotic. You claimed everyone was just sharing the ball. The last 3 games Trent has been PG and it’s extremely obvious.

Ayo is important because he's a good player. No one cares that Trent brings it up most of the time, he's not a point guard and doesn't really initiate the offense, but yes you were correct on that.

Without Kofi there isn't as much winning this year. Yes. Same with Griffin, Ayo, and probably Trent.

They actually spent like 3 minutes on the telecast explaining why Underwood changed the defense, and it wasn't because of Kofi. So you're wrong there.

You said that Kofi was a generational talent. That was pretty stupid.

How many points do I get for pointing out the dumb things that you post?

He does initiate the offense. Even the commentators today mentioned it. Kofi is a generational talent. And yes, they knew last year they needed to change their defense. They couldn’t do it until they had a rim protector. It was obvious they were fouling too much. The analysis by the nerd friend of the kid showed what the best were best at, which is why they changed what exactly they did. Oh and 17 rebounds...outside of Deon Thomas in 90 and Krupalia in 99, no freshman big man has done what Kofi has done with rebounding. But that isn’t super inoortant.

Trent almost never gets into the lane int the half court. Not a point guard by any means, unfortunately. He brings the ball up but I think they do that to get it to Ayo on the wing. Today was a great example of where a true point guard would have really helped, they were unable to get the ball to open shooters off penetration in the first half.

Rim protecter, er . . . a little? Anyway, a rim protector would encourage a team to play more pressure, not less, because he would cover back doors and guys beaten to the rim. You'd play less aggressive without a rim protector.

Generational talent, no,maybe in the world of UI basketball over the last decade, but that's a small pond. Generational talents are the top one an dones, players who are the best of their generation. Not guys who are excellent rebounders but don't play outside the paint. He's a beast, though, I never argued that.

That was some terrible shooting percentage, but a win is a win is a win. 2nd place in the B1G. I hope they get that double bye in the tournament. Ohio State is ranked #11 in the nation and yet are at the bottom of the B1G. It's a crazy conference this year

Yeah...Rutgers is a good win this year.

In the end (march madness) quality front court depth and scoring will be issues for Illinois, but other than MSU/Michigan they can be in every game in Big10. Ohio State has played themself out of ranking from #6 in about a week. Wisconsin made them look bad. Maryland is similar to Illinois in several ways. Can't shoot either.

UI already beat Michigan.

Michigan maybe not the same without Beilin.

I think there's MSU and then about 10 teams that can all beat each other on a given night right now. Lots of parity, and I think the BIG is pretty easily the strongest league in the country this year.
