Giorgi was just a shot in the dark that paid off. He wasn't high on anyone's list. Was it luck or does Wood have the ability to spot diamonds in the rough?
Griffin wasn't highly recruited either for whatever reason. I think Underwood has a knack for finding talent whether ranked or not.

Griffin was NYC best player, but not highly rated. Many Illini posters did not like the signing. Stepinac coach is now getting responses from P5 programs that they messed up not offering. Giorgi and Alan are both Antigua finds. NYC is Antigua's stomping grounds.

How did they miss on Kalkbrenner?

By not signing him?

It was reported they were in good shape with him and then something happened, maybe on a visit or maybe he just changed his mind and told them no.

I guess you could add Timme to the list although I think they did everything they could and came in second.

That wasn't on the coaching staff. Walker was the lead recruiter. Whitman happened.

Ayo's draft stock has plummeted on this website.
Very odd. Could it be that scouts see him as a tweener?

I don't see anyone on the team that would benefit from going pro next year.

But Frazier, Dosunmu, Cockburn are all close calls which would make them all coming back and adding a one and done or two legit.

well, if you're Illinois, you want Ayo to go pro to show Chicago that you can send homegrown talent to the NBA. Also, word on the street is that Adam Miiller is not coming if Ayo is still on the roster next year.

Yup although the question is would you rather have a 3rd year of Ayo or Miller. Frazier, Ayo, Giorgi and Kofi could be very special if they all stay 1 more year. Plus throw in Curbelo.

Frazier will never play in the NBA. Overseas, yes, but there aren't 6' shooting guards in the NBA.

Ayo didn’t help himself early in the season, but he is finishing through contact and since Frazier started bringing up the ball, Ayo has been doing Point Guard things and also taking over at the end. His stock is moving up. Right now he is probably a late 2nd rounder.

Word on the street is old fake news.

Good to find this thread. Most excited I’ve been about Illini basketball since some time in 2011 or 2012, I can barely remember.

Looking forward to Garza vs Kofi. Kofi better bring his 'A' game this time.
