I don’t live and die on every shot. But after teo bad seasons, cussing endlessly while losing, and dropping games at home to Miami and being no competitive against a horrible Missouri team, I would have fired him on the way to the bus. ?

It's the Illini.

Eh, Chris Beard took a mediocre program with minimal talent to the Elite 8 in his 2nd season. He then went to the final the following year, notice how quickly he developed his players.

He developed them so well, his record isn’t any better than Underwood’s this year.

No they weren't deserved. Only people live and die by every shot, every pitch and every hike in games think shit like that.

Keep in mind they had already lost to Miami and had a couple very shitty years under Wood. It's not like that Mizzou game was an aberration.

That being said, glad Wood seems to be turning thing around. But he absolutely deserved all the jeers he was getting early on.

Parade is going overboard with his Wood love. I stand by what I said earlier, despite the fact that the arrow appears pointed up, Wood had accomplished squadoosh. Absolutely nada!
Has nothing to do with “wood love”. Has to do with where Illinois was as a program and what talent or lack thereof they have/had. It shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to have observed both Underwood and Chambers tonight and realize that Underwood can coach. He needs more shooters and they are coming next season.

If you were guaranteed that Belein would take the job if you fired Underwood, would you do it?

I am happy with Underwood’s recruiting, but I thought he’d be a much better offensive coach after looking at his track record.

Seems our offense is frequently just weaving until it’s time for someone to create their own shot one on one, usually Ayo.

Think they’re underperforming offensively considering the talent, but their defense has really been impressive lately. Give him credit for that.

Underwood was supposed to have this high flying offense and it has failed miserably(admittedly it's harder to do in the rough and tumble Big10). I give him credit for changing to adjust to a defensive minded approach and hopefully the offense will drastically improve next season but if it doesn't, he won't have considerable success over the long haul, or maybe he does like Beilen did(not likely but certainly a possibility). First step is to improve the shooting, then ball movement and then keep Giorgii on the bench, which is where he belongs. But he needs to show something in the tournament either this year or next.

Solid strawman.
I'm not sure if you know what straw man means. Question is: have a coach that went to the E8 & NCG in his first 4yrs or a coach with 1 likely appearance(likely out early too)?

Keep in mind that Lubbock is a historically crappy program in the middle of nowhere. They've produced what, Jason Sasser & Darvin Ham?

Edit: forgot about Tony Battie

If the question is "would I rather have Chris Beard than Underwood?" the answer is definitely yes. Not sure why that is a question though because it isn't happening.

Year three was always the year to turn the corner imo and he's done that pretty well. It wouldn't surprise me if they won a game or two in the tourney this year. Ayo is likely to be the best player on the floor in a lot of games, he's also become an elite closer, and defense in the Big10 is just better than in most other leagues.

I think with next year's recruiting class, Kofi almost certainly staying (his NBA-level game has been exposed) and the progression of Griff and likely depth, the future looks pretty good.

I like what Underwood is doing with big men. I think he needs to bring on a coach who can help the shooting woes of the offense. For the talent on the team, they are definitely under-performing on offense.

I do know what a strawman means. It's an informal fallacy set up to beat an argument that wasn't presented. You said he developed his players, yet this season he doesn't have any better record than the guy you keep wanting to replace. Underwood is developing players and winning in year 3. Lubbock is similar to Champaign, except the Big Ten is a superior basketball conference, especially this season.

Yes let's completely ignore the results on the prior seasons and focus solely on this year? We'll just have to agree to disagree.
