47 combined fouls is just bad basketball. Way to gut out the win but this was just ugly basketball with a lot of points. Very rare.
The more frustrating part is Brad’s blind love for him as point-forward. WTF?!Hawkins and Donald are absolute trash at handling the ball.
Hawkins has the intelligence of Jerry’s Kids. For the love of God, get rid of this fucking coach.
I just don’t get it. This wasn’t some good team they lost to.The more frustrating part is Brad’s blind love for him as point-forward. WTF?!
The defense has all but evaporated. Underwood finally has an offense that he was hyped to be bringing but they can’t stop anybody, Penn St included. 4th in KenPom offensive efficiency. I saw a couple of brackets as a 5th seed. They’ll likely have a couple more losses or end the year. My guess is a loss at Wisconsin, at Iowa and in the BTT. Maybe they can salvage a win vs Purdue. But 23-10 is a 6 seed at best.Hawkins looked good.
I love Sat noon games. See if they can top 105 pts. No. 13 Illini Visit Wisconsin Saturday - University of Illinois Athletics
This team makes offense look easy. There were so many Illinois teams that struggled to score 60 or 65. It’s just sad that they can’t stop anybody at all defensively. It felt like Wisconsin was getting layups at will, which is not anything new vs Illinois.Impressive. Is this offense as close to the flying Illini as any other Illini team? The 05 team had a prolific offense but they didn’t even score like this. They just played considerably better defense.
@TL1961
I’ll do some deep diving on the kenpom numbers but usually a team needs an elite offense and a decent defense. Most teams that have won it are in the top 10 on offense and top 20 on defense. The 89 Team started off with 12 straight games of 80+. This team is nearly as explosive ever since Shannon came back—both teams lack(ed) a true PG too.This team makes offense look easy. When looking at teams that do well in the tournament, they always need to be balanced and be in the top 25 or 40 both offensively and defensively.
I’m just afraid that Illinois will get knocked out early because of not being able to stop the opponent from scoring no matter who it is.
Hopefully they will prove me wrong, and let the offense carry them so they can actually advance to the second weekend for a change.
