Lovie needed to show progress this season. While he didn't have to go bowling, the team needed to go at least 4-8 (double the team wins from previous season) and look competitive. While they were ahead of PSU in the 3rd quarter, the meltdown in the 4th was awful. Purdue was a big loss and Maryland was pitiful. That can't happen in year 3, but now he beat Minnesota in a game Minnesota was favored by 9.5. They should have won my a lot more, but between an overturned call that shouldn't have been overturned providing a 10 point swing and the walk-ons/backups in the defensive backfield giving up a couple of touchdowns late, the D stats look worse than what happened on the field when it mattered. So, it would make sense, if this season was about progress as the AD and higher Admin have suggested, then these last 3 games are going to indicate whether or not this team is making progress. If they lose all three, they had better look competent or I could see them losing at least one of their top recruits to another program. Year 4 has to include a bowl.

Wait..I thought you said this upon his hire....

Getting IL on track like Alvarez did at Wisconsin is doable. Start getting 6-6 and 7-5 and go from there. He can do that the first 2-3 years

I said he could. He didn't. He went with a youth movement instead of doing things like Brohm did. Take that up with Lovie's boss.

He pantsed the guy you shill for.

...And that means things or going well for Lovie how?

I've never said "things are going well for Fleck". I told you the mindset of Minnesota. I even said the Illinois loss was off script.

Fleck's failings don't make Lovie better. If you don't think Fleck is a good HC then you can't use him beating Fleck as a feather in Lovie's cap.

I'm sure that's a HUGE consideration for the Illinois administration.
Progress is the huge consideration. Just another dopey, immature post by a moderator representing the decision making of the forum ownership.

You used Lovie beating a 3.5 win O/U as a rationalization for him doing well this year..................and I'm the dopey one.

I didn't do that, but you can continue your dopey behavior of taking slivers of posts out of context while representing the forum ownership as a Moderator they chose to represent them.

I wasn't the one who predicted Lovie would be Barry Alvarez.
Lovie isn't fired yet. I told you I would gladly eat crow when the time comes for it. This post you made is more an indication of why many people don't converse with you.

I'm not the one who when named a moderator claimed my behavior would be different. As a representative of the forum ownership, you've completely hijacked this thread.

He's also not Barry Alvarez by year 3.

He's not at your win totals by year three.

You've been a million percent wrong.

According to Parade's Barry Alvarez Timetable Illinois will be 11-1 or 10-2 next year and win the Rose Bowl, finishing as the #5 team in the country.

I couldn't care less my win total is off. Unlike you, I can make adjustments for things that aren't within my control. Barry Alvarez lasted a long time at Wisconsin. That was the reference for Lovie. That he could stabilize Illinois football and provide consistency they haven't had. Once again, in your immaturity, you misrepresent posts because it's in your nature to represent the forum ownership poorly.

OTOH, if you wanted to actually do something other than hijack a thread as a representative of the forum ownership, you could possibly offer up some suggestions for replacements to Lovie Smith since the OP wants to entertain the idea that Illinois is going to come up with way more than $12 mil to buyout the entire coaching staff and bring in a new one, even though they need all the capital available to complete the football training center and also build a new complex in downtown Champaign for the D1 hockey program they will be bringing on line in a few years. That building will also house wrestling and some other sport I can't recall. IOW, they have better uses for $12 mil this year than buying out Lovie, if at all possible. That is a fact!

Now you could do something highly unusual for yourself and offer a decent suggestion for a replacement coach instead of spending your day trolling. I did. Perhaps you can find a scrap of decency in yourself to do the same.

Odd. You seem constantly butt hurt by it.

:aj:

Still hilarious.

Lovie will also become the AD at Illinois then some day too?

They've already been consistently bad. They didn't need Lovie for that.

Why are they worried about money?! You said Lovie has been coaching for free for the last three years. They already have the buyout money in the bank!

you said:
The U of I got essentially 2 free years of Smith as HC thanks to Tampa Bay.

That building will also house wrestling and some other sport I can't recall.
At this rate, it's likely the football team in the basement/boiler room.

I like the Nick Saban idea.

ROLL ILLINI!

More buffoonery on your part. Taking things out of context and suggesting Nick Saban. That isn't even a legit possibility. You can't even make any reasonably serious suggestions, because you are concerned a creep would rip your suggestions apart like you do to others. Great job, representative of the forum ownership!
