I'm confused - do we HAVE to trade Deng to get Bron and Bosh?

Someone please lay it out for me - I don't understand a lot of this cap stuff and what affects what. Can we sign Bosh and LeBron without moving Deng's contract? If no, what could be done to get those two signed here?

Just looking for some numbers to help me explain it to my father (he doesn't even have half the clue that I do, and I'm only about 50% sure of what's going on with the cap.)

No, we don't need to necessarily trade Deng to sign both of them.

The reason why the S&T would work is Bosh can receive more money and more years if he's signed by the Raptors then immediately dealt to another team as opposed to if he just signed with a team due to the CBA's rules and Bird Rights.

taj gibson, james johnson and draft picks are all we need to be able to sign bosh. plus we could EASILY dump those two to any team and sign him outright.

Yes, but those rumors are wrong.

There's like $15 million missing somewhere.

ok guys, i'm gonna teach you something. it's called cap space. when a team is under the cap, they can absorb salary. how do you think we traded hinrich and the draft pick for a future second? they absorbed his contract. if we send james johnson and taj gibson, we can absorb the remaining 15 million with our cap room.

who's laughing now

it's ok, maybe someday you can know as much as me.

The Bulls only need to trade JJ to sign Bosh with no S&T.

Thanks chief, now let me teach you how it actually works.

The Raptors are currently under the cap... yes. They also don't have Chris Bosh on their payroll right now.

But when they resign Chris Bosh, they go over the soft cap using their Bird Rights. Thus putting them over the cap. And thus, every deal they do must meet the 15% requirement. Ergo, the Bulls cannot trade $3 million in salary to acquire $16 million. That deal only works if Deng is included. The Bulls would still be under the cap, but the Raptors would not be. Both parties must be under the cap to not swap near equal money.

The reason the Hinrich to the Wizards deal was able to go was neither team was over the cap at the moment, so the Wizards were able to absorb the extra money.

That does not happen in a sign and trade with Bosh.

Thanks for trying though.

The Bulls do not need to trade Deng in a S&T for Bosh.

...Yes...they do. Unless you just wanna not tell the NBA about the trade and just see if we can do it under the table.

Which reports?

Sam Smith said the Bulls have in S&T in place for Bosh which would include Taj, 3st round picks and 3 million for Bosh. Also I think Ric said that too. The Raptors also do not want Deng. I don't get it, the Bulls only need to trade JJ for them not to have to do a S&T for Bosh.
