Gordon is not a good fit because you don't pay a guy 10mil per to be possibly the 5th best player on your team. Especially playing the role he would play with Lebron, Bosh and Rose. And how can you laude Gordon, who is infamously bad defensively but knock Johnson's defense? I don't get it...

I am talking specifically about this year concerning Deng. I believe they would have rather kept Hinrich because he would compliment Lebron/Bosh or Johnson well...

i agree on all parts.

my only contention is that this plan was hatched upon the fly. They came up with it rather recently. If the plan was to go after lebron all along, they wouldn't have signed deng. It's my only point. i think they were going after wade/bosh.

They signed Deng in 2007! Lebron had just signed a new deal with Cleveland...

I believe they planned to go after Lebron in 2008 and solidified their plan in 2009. I don't think they decided to pursue him recently.

As I have said before, the Bulls always pursuethe top dogs, Reinsdorf does that with both os his teams, not matter if the odds are against them.

Deng was signed to his fat contract in late summer, 2008.....apparently, according to you, while they were planning on going after LeBron James.

Gordon was not a "JR guy". The moment Gordon stood in front of the media and stated he should be paid 15mil+...he was a goner.

When and where did he do that? Are you confusing this with the 9 million per year he tried to sign in October 2008 that they pulled off the table. Gordon never stood in front of the media and said he deserved 15 million per year? That's a false statement.

Whether or not they were worth keeping wasn't the argument. You said we got into this position for nothing. I pointed out that it cost us 3 top 7 picks to get into this position.

That list isn't complete at all, what about TC, Fizer and Crawfrord.

And Fred, I think the 15mill statement was the one that he said he should be the highest paid player on the team after they signed Ben Wallace. I don't think he was demanding 15 mill but just saying he is the best player and should be paid like it.

Okay, I got the years mixed up...2007 was the "summer of Kobe"...people claimed that it was all a distraction to the players which is why they started slowly...my bad...

When I say 2008, I am referring to fall/winter 2008, during the season. I don't believe the Bulls would say "We are not pursuing Lebron because we have Deng"...They would have pursued him if they had the cap space to pursue him. So in Feb. 2009 they begin to generate cap space...the free agent list of 2010 wsa well known and hyped at that time. The Bulls wanted in...if not to get Lebron, they wanted to get a player to improve their roster, dramatically. Only after the playoffs of 2010 did their chances supposedly improve. Of course, nobody knows what Lebron is thinking anyway.

Supposedly they could have gotten Amare in 2009 but for some reason, they don't like him. I had always heard they preferred Bosh, would later try a sign and trade or pursue him around this time. But by no means do I believe taking a shot at Lebron is some new idea they stumbled on...they have planned to have cap space for some time now...

Someone as incompetant as Donald Sterling was able to do the same damn thing...the only difference is that he wasn't lucky enough to win the 1.8% Derrick Rose lottery.

Once you make picks they become players, not draft positions. As players Thomas is a guy who will probably never get it and give consistent effort, Hinrich is a defensive specialist, and Gordon is about an average starter at his position.

That's not giving up a whole lot.

Yeah, I didn't quite understand that argument...

If I am not mistaken, a #2,3, or #7 pick have never been traded...before the actual pick, for cap space...

I don't think Miami would have traded the #2 spot in the draft for capspace and a future 2nd rounder back in 2008...would have been insanely stupid.
