He'll be a FA when he's 29 years old. Barring injury or unexpected attrition he's going to be paid handsomely. I couldn't even guess at the money at this point.

Somehow I thought it was to 32. I think if he waits til he's a FA it would be less than say he resigns at say age 27

Maybe. Trout is an interesting case in that he's playing for a team that has almost no chance of winning in the last 4 years of his deal. I can't imagine he'd entertain another extension.

It seemed the debate was more about whether or not Bryant was better than Harper, etc - then whether or not Bryant is top 5.

The sub headline: Let's do our monthly rundown of the 100 players who have been tops in 2016 thus far.

Kershaw at 22 (and 8th among SP) is crazy to think about because he's only done three months of work.

Bryant is the best position player in MLB. He can hit for average with an OPS over .900. He leading the league in HR, is in the top 5 in RBI's and is leading the league in WAR and runs scored and he's one of the best third baseman in baseball defensively. He's going to win the MVP after winning the rookie of the year last year. What more can the guy do to prove how good he is?

Its really unfortunate the Mike Trout is on one of the worst teams in baseball because he's as good as Bryant. He's leading MLB in OPS and OBP. He will probably wind up on the Yankees on 2021. They're one of the only teams who will be able to pay him $30M which is what Im sure his agent wants.

I'd still take Mike Trout over him.

Its really a toss up. Trout is awesome there's no doubt about that. But he plays on one of the worst teams in baseball. Trout's WAR leads all of baseball and he leads the majors in OPS. But he can't play third base like Bryant. How many times has Bryant stolen an easy 2B hit from a lot of hitter this year?

So what?

Bryant can't play CF like Trout.

How many times has Trout dove and stolen a 2B or 3B this year? A lot.

Actually, since Mike Trout is a league-average defender in CF these days, Bryant probably wouldn't be too far behind him.
If you put Kris Bryant in CF he would not be as good a defender as Mike Trout is at the position and it wouldn't be close IMO.

Personal recall is a pretty shoddy way to evaluate a baseball player in 2016.
Did you even see what I was responding to?!

Christ.

I mean Trout is the best player in the game, but he has seemed to peak based on his seasons. Bryant keeps rising. So, we will see in the coming years.
