So where do you guys cut off the #1 WRs?
  1. Top 32 WRs based on yards
  2. Top 32 WRs based on receptions
  3. Top 32 WRs based on touchdowns
  4. Top 32 WRs based on all three
  5. Top 10 WRs based on yards
  6. Top 10 WRs based on receptions
  7. Top 10 WRs based on touchdowns
  8. Top 10 WRs based on all three
  9. Something else
Because if you go by statistics Mooney last year was:

  • #17 based on yards with 1,055
  • #19 based on receptions with 81
  • #49 based on touchdowns with 4
  • #11 based on targets with 140
So, he's right on the ends of WR1 IMO with those numbers. More TDs and who knows.

He may lead the Bears in production. They may go into next season with him as #1. But he is not a true #1. They at the very least need to get another guy on his level with GUAGI *Matt Spiegel voice.

#1 to me is can you be a winning team with that guy as your best WR. You absolutely can be with Mooney IMO.

Oh wasn't suggesting it needed to be a TE. The point was they need someone that can take advantage of the space Mooney creates. I don't care if it is a TE or a WR. A TE just does it for cheaper if you can find an elite one.
i agree. I think a high end TE this offseason is a luxury they can't afford. They will have to draft one or wait til next year if Kmet doesn't work out.

I’m not at all saying that Mooney is in the league of Kupp, Evans or Chase. But the biggest difference between those 3 and Mooney is who’s behind center and the play callers. I do think Mooney can put up between 1200-1400 yards and 6-8tds with better QB play. If he can get to those numbers, that would be in the wr1 range.
Agreed.

They need a Travis Kelce ie a guy that can take advantage of the underneath stuff created by Mooney and the other speed WRs they acquire.

Whether that comes in the form of a No 1 WR or TE doesn't matter. If for example you had Mooney and a Kyle Pitts, that would be perfectly fine. The issue right now is that we lack a guy that consistently can get upon underneath to give Fields that outlet.
Unfortunately there are only about 4 high end TE's - Kelce, Waller, Pitts and Andrews, maybe Hockenson, lot's of teams needing this.

Surprised at those that say he isn’t or can’t be a #1. He is statistically ahead of some great wide receivers despite a shit “scheme” and bad QB play. I could easily see him going for 1200+ next season. That’s a #1 in my book. Think some just have this 6’3 225 lbs guy in their head and anything else can’t be a #1.
You're right, can be anyone that can get open even on double teams and catches the ball.

Based on criteria of 1 & 2 above.

It really depends on people’s definition of a #1 Wide Receiver.

A Cooper Kupp type receiver or
A De’Andre Hopkins type?

Is it about the yards? Or how he gets them?

I want the big, tall fast guy on the outside that wins the jump balls and double teams. That’s my desire in a true #1. Mooney might still outpace him in yards (and even TD’s) but he’s the threat defenses will have to focus on.

I love Mooney tho… and with a big guy on the outside to keep defenses honest, his yardage would only go up.

How a WR gets the yards is irrelevant to me.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
He's a number two, I don't think he's a number one. He doesn't dominate like a number one. He can't take over a game. His numbers were inflated because who else are we going to throw the football too? He's definitely a guy I want to keep around but we need a bonafide number one.
