most schools that i know of dont have that option, so you will probably have to have a roommate (its really not that bad(well most of the time it isnt, living with someone else is never easy thou)). most dorms have different types of rooms. My freshman year i lived in a Suite, basically two rooms connected by a bathroom in the middle. My sophmore year i moved into a more "apartment" style room. I still had 4 people in my room but we all had separate rooms and the apartment had two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room we all shared. I liked that way better, but it also cost more money.

also most schools require you to live on campus for at least 1-2 years (you maybe able to get out of this with a doctors note) it really depends on the school though, contact the director of housing to find out all of this.

While I wouldn't presume to speak for Rory, I am going to go ahead and guess that part of the comment was because Rice is Asian.

And while it is becoming more and more clear that you are just looking for affirmation of your beliefs, living in dorms is an experience that you reallly can't duplicate. Do it for a year and then move off campus. And it has very little to do with partying, but living with a bunch of people that are roughly the same age and have similar goals is something that doesn't occur at any other point in your life.

If you really want someone to answer your questions, go take an official visit to the campus (if you can) & ask them about it. They'll tell you what's up with it all. Shit, even just finding someone on facebook and sending them a message or something asking about the school is something better than asking this board. Asking a board of people who all went to different colleges & experienced many different things while living in dorms & off-campus isn't going to lead to any success for you.

Honestly, that's what I call a cool story bro. Such a riveting tale, I honestly copy and pasted it to word, saved on my hard drive, backed it up on a jump drive, drove to the bank, put the jump drive in the safe deposit box, and will leave it there until my kids can understand. Then I will pick it up, put it in an old USB drive reader and relay this cool story to them and tell them, "kids, this is what a cool story should look and sound like...not like the stories your generation tells.
