I can listen to anything from the 50s 60s 70s especially 80s 90s and EARLY 2000s but for the most part I can't stand new music especially rap the old shit destroys the new shit.

90's music does conquer all. I am down with artist or band that actually puts meaning, time, and blood into their music. I find that a lot of music made today is mindless filler. There is still good music, but you mostly find it on the indie labels.

I dunno- I think the American Idol, Whatever country's got Talent -etc shows are killing actual music, by putting out clowns who really can't hold a candle to bands that not only composed but played their own music -- basically a generation of cover bands.

Fwiw, rap/hiphop -whatever, it existed back in the 80's -so if you get the idea that people in their 40's don't know anything about it -you'd be mistaken.

I had a Cypress Hill album once -it was basically about the band's choice of smoking material ... pretty much brain dead stuff. But, my only point in that - is that that particular album was pretty big for them at the time.

Music in Australia has been a little too expensive for me to worry too much about -sure there is iTunes, but for now my best purchase off of that was the America song from Team America.

I don't know - you know -then you get other trash like Amy Winehouse getting all defiant about not going to rehab... when she looks like Curt Cobain after a bender... lady, you really ought to consider it.

And let me not be remiss by bringing up Justin Bieber? You know- if you want that, feel free to have it - I think I will keep my Zep albums around... but then again, I wasn't the type that was too into WLS when they were Top 40 either ...

Anyways... music is actually relative I suppose -- there is a lot of stuff being promoted that makes money out there -that I can't figure out why ... but I don't have time to worry about it :)

Probably like most of you.

Of course there's good music still out there. It's not on the radio though. You gotta find the good stuff yourself. :)

It's been like that for awhile... but right on the money, as far as I'm concerned.

Popular music has to be good too. I mean, seriously, I grew up with hearing the Cure, Def Leopard, Scorpions, Metalica, Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam on the radio... Now what? Lady Garbage, ex-American Idol contestant? Don't be so serious, yes, I'm looking at you, egotistical twerps in the music industry.

One of the problems that people rarely mention is the fact that adults are completely out of the top 40 market.
Older people who grew up with and know good music stay on dials that have no impact on current music. Classic Rock, Old School RnB, or Country Legends stations.

This means the Top 40 is ran by teenage girls and idiot rap fans. So that's who gets marketed to. If the older generation taste still had a say in what new music came on the radio, idiots like Soulja Boy would've never made it.

Shit, even Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys and early Beatles don't get played on oldies stations anymore.

I think its just harder to find new music now. You listen to any classic/rock station, you hear the same things constantly. Late 80s rock to early 90s grunge.

Most of the time I find new bands by going to all day concerts to see the bands I like and find a band I may dig there. Or I will have one of the music tv channels on and find randomly a band I like and look more into them.

Music these days is just stale, or a synth machine put to catchy vocals

As for the Top 40/Oldies commentary, what is the definition of these? Take Ozzy Osbourne for example, what would his music be considered? Some call him metal, some call him rock, some call him classic rock. You find his music on all of these radio formats in one fashion or another. I mean 30 years from now are you going to consider Slayer as Oldies?

This

Am I closed minded if I turn off any song that has a synthesized voice?

Everyone sounds like the same auto-tuned robot, from the same auto-tuned family, that eat the same auto-tuned tuna, and drink the same auto-tuned koolaid.

I think people just hate rap because in general the guys who make the top 40 stuff are complete idiots and like someone else said, every song is about clubs, drugs, hoes, and sex. Who wants to listen to that stuff? Good rap is out there, just hard to find.

I like some rap, but not the kind that reminds me of the problems that I have. But that goes for most music, I don't like ***** and moaners or braggers in general when it comes to music.

Oh they do have a say- that older generation -otherwise you'd never see the Idols shows on tv... they love the interactivity of phone voting.

It is all a cynical joke however...

Incidentally, too there are a lot of good Aussie bands that you never hear of in the US... because they didn't fit the mold...

however too- there isn't anything as silly as listening to some guys from Adelaide rap with Australian accents - not sure what that ever was about ... I think one group is called Hilltop Hoods or something ...

personally, give me a band like Powderfinger any day.

The thing that irks old timers is the lack of musicality in "popular" music these days. Not only radio rock, but new indie and all that shit played during commercials for Apple products. Piling on layers of instruments =/= musicality either.

The only place musicality is really found in rock music is metal thesedays. Hence, why it rules and why nu-metal always sucked.
