i listen to bands from the years 1920 to 2011. and i even lisetn to shit before then (hundreds of years before then actually) although i dont really think you can call them bands like we consider them..
lol reading this thread makes me understand why all music sucks now a days... you people need to get your game up... your favorite band from whatever 15 to 30 years ago isnt around anymore.. boo fucking hoo.. get over it find something else (im telling you its out there you just need to ask) or quit bitching about it. shit evolves, if that shit doesnt work for you just listen to the same old 10-15 cds you own.. like my dad does.

I do the same... except I don't think I have any music released in 2011 in my collection so I can only say up to 2010.
I find a lot of other cultures have great music coming out still, I've had several Japanese and South African bands with good new music.
There is a lot of change from the current media direction and marketing used that has effected music to a horrible direction. I hope more radio beings failing like it has which could push for more small show venues.
As someone mentioned MCR before, the marketing and draw of fame just ruined them. Initially they said they were going back to make a more rock CD after their lame 3rd cd, yet after recording a CD, they scrap it and a guy quits the band, then they do a awful worse pop tween marketed cd.
I think the problem is there is much much more music targeted at tweens nowadays than before... its because they are the ones who actually still buy music(by getting their parents to buy it for them) There's still good music out there but it's not "relevant."
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of music that is coming out that I still like...but you have to dig for it. Speaking purely in terms of mainstream culture (album sales, concert ticketing, what gets airplay etc), the stuff that kids are listening too now sucks donkey balls and the stuff I listened to as a teen in the 90's was pretty fucking good. IMO anyways. That was my point.
