Please tell me you were drunk when you posted that? :lmao:

I agree with him. I'm going to stay away from the rap / hip hop conversation and stick to rock. The 90's were absolutely a golden age of rock, especially compared to today. The 70's were very good too. Anyways, most of the crap they are putting out now doesn't hold a candle to what was coming out in the 90's in my opinion. I don't think that has anything to do with me being "old" and growing up listening to 90's rock...it's just that I have taste and know shitty music when I hear it.

I mean, come on, think about it (randomly off the top of my head, there are many more)....

- Sublime
- Nirvana
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Pearl Jam
- Janes Addiction
- Smashing Pumpkins
- Weezer
- Soungarden
- Rage Against The Machine
- Nine Inch Nails
- Alice In Chains
- Tool
- And many, many more

Compared to ??????

I'm not saying there isn't any new good music coming out, it's just not at near the frequency and volume we had in the 90's. That's a fact.

Whether or not the 90s is better than another decade is basely mainly if not totally on perspective and preference

i think the 80s was actually one of the best decades for music imo..that again thats jmo

we all have different tastes..some more similar than others

-sure there is iTunes, but for now my best purchase off of that was the America song from Team America.

you have to look around on iTunes.

like click the music ab and go to your favorite music genre, and then browse the shit outta it hahaha.

That's what I always do until I finid something I really like. And a lot of time, it's not even a popular band, but they're still good

I like a lot of different music, and none of it is played on the radio (except maybe XM sometimes). I do listen to some dumb rap, but it's usually in my car on mixtapes to exercise my subwoofer.

IMO, some of the best albums I've heard in quite a while are still being put out. Bands like Between the Buried and Me, The Human Abstract, August Burns Red, etc are the stuff I'm really into. BTBAM, whether you like that brand of metal or not, is probably one of the most complex and talented bands that is making music today. Progressive metal FTW.

I also love me some Buckethead. Probably my favorite guitarist ever.

Am I closed minded if I turn off any song that has a synthesized voice?

Everyone sounds like the same auto-tuned robot, from the same auto-tuned family, that eat the same auto-tuned tuna, and drink the same auto-tuned koolaid.

It's not to say all synth music is bad, Daft Punk is pretty amazing.

Only if you listen to the radio you may think today's music is bad. The way it seems to me is that all genre's are starting to sound alike. You probably would have to listen to an artist non radio songs to get quality music from them.

I agree.

A lot of artists make songs that they know will do well on the radio because they wanna get known or heard.

then when you review the album, there's a lot of stuff that you didn't expect to find there.

FWIW, I have never heard two of my favorite bands on terrestrial radio.

The two bands I speak of are Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly.

And yes, I know the Score sometimes plays DKM coming out of a commerical break when the Sox are playing the Sawx. I don't count that.

I really cant say I'm a fan of anything mainstream now a days. I've tried and most of the time my reaction is "This sounds like shit." And I'm part of Generation Y and while most of my friends will listen to the crap rap music meant for clubs and be into that stuff just because its "cool", I've never been attracted ot it. I prefer many stuff from the 70's, 80's and 90's. I actually agree with several that the 90's were a great era for music. I listen to a lot of classic rock. There's only a bit of punk rock I like that is from the 2000's, and then some folk rock like Mumford and Sons that I like that is more recent.

Dero is right. He is a musical goddess, so he knows his shit. I just get all my new music from him.

One thing that many of my friends say when I tell them that their music sucks, is that he/she's lyrics are the truth & stuff like that. Perhaps it's just me, but do lyrics really matter that much? I like good lyrics, but if the actual music sucks, then I'm not gonna listen to that shit, great lyrics or not.

Daft Punk is still a 90s group to me. But yeah, off the point, but still, Daft Punk is pretty decent.

/end quote response.

Chemical Brothers > All

I am always amazed that they are still so very much underrated, when they are one of the all-time greatest bands ever. I'll put them up against any modern group from any genre. Yes, I think Radiohead is great, despite being recently overrated to all hell, but I still put the Chemical Brothers on a skyscraper above them.

This song just came out last year, love it.

Honestly it doesn't always matter, depends on what you're listening to.

Take Black Sabbath's Iron Man for instance, that song would be great regardless of what the lyrics are.

Then you got bands like Portishead and Radiohead where the actual lyrics are only like 10% of their appeal. I listen to Radiohead everyday and I still don't know what they're saying on half of the songs.

Exit Music for a Film
Paranoid Android
The National Anthem

the lyrics aren't what makes their best songs, just my opinion.

Easy way to pop on some good music:

1. Hop on Pandora
2. Make Buckethead station
3. Listen to great music for hours

I do this all the time. Plays stuff like Buckethead (mostly his chill stuff), Satriani, Petrucci, and other instrumental guitar-centric stuff. What's really nice is my Bluray player streams Pandora so I can just blast it on my home theater when I'm chilling, cleaning, etc.
