Are we discussing what major changes need to occur to the lineup?

How about we add a healthy Bryant?

Talk all you want about inconsistencies in the offense, but they were #1 with him, and #25 without.

FYI kershaw is pitching today. I doubt he'd be available for the wc game.

And, since today's game is essentially a playoff game for them, Kershaw is getting hit hard.

But the Dodgers did win, and the Cards are eliminated.

Agreed but I think there is a fair point to be made about the line up falling apart this year after the 5th hitter. Like I've said I think the young guys will improve but they need to have guys who can step up when someone isn't hitting.

Contreras was the guy I expected to do that, and is easily the biggest disappointment this year to me. But I haven't given up that he can step up his offensive game. He has the physical tools. We shall see.

Tigers just blew a 3-0 lead. Woof.

And I really, really don't wanna go Milwaukee for division and then Dodgers in one-game WC if we lost division.

Two nights in a row the Tigers were up 3-0 and blew the lead. But they are down just one now. 5-4.

Funny thing though, often the cold team does well in the playoffs, or the hot team you expect t win gets knocked out. We shall see.

Yelich is like... 2 RBI's from leading all 3 triple crown categories. I'm not sure it's possible to carry a team more than he is right now.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him accomplish that..
Something very very rare like that

In order for him to accomplish it, that means he has several RBI today. No thanks.

I have seen this accomplishment within the last six years. I’m good.

Can't wait for the meltdown in here if the Cubs lose today.

Not sure how it would be any different than any other day from the past month. Way i see things there's 2 camps of people. There's the emotional side that get that way after any loss and there's the rationale cold side. I can't speak for others but if the cubs lose today and presumably lose the division I'm not going to have a melt down. I'll be disappointed but from my standpoint, MIL has lived a charmed life where lots went right. Obviously they made some of their own luck playing well but in the last week they've won a game where the game tying run fell down on the way to home and another game where a home run bounced off a defenders glove over the fence. You contrast that story with the one the cubs have dealt with the past couple of months and it's polar opposites. Cubs have had a slew of high profile injuries. The league and weather have screwed them over. And throughout all of that it has taken the final game of the season for both teams and possible a 163rd game for the cubs to relinquish the division lead.

So, from my standpoint anyways if the cubs don't win the division it just wasn't meant to be. There aren't many things I could realistically suggest going worse. I mean maybe you argue they could have had even more guys get hurt but they lost the guy who was supposed to be their staff ace for the season in like june. They lost their closer also around midseason. They lost their MVP caliber 3B for half a season. Most teams that have that sort of gut punch end up like Washington did this year as a playoff contender who's done by the trade deadline. It's a testament to this team that they are not only the best record in the NL but still battling for a division title having dealt with all of that.

Baseball thoughts: Please stop with the eulogies. No matter what happens on the field today, 2018 Cubs baseball isn’t over. You’ve got to be in it to win it, and they’re in it. This is still the golden era of Cubs baseball. Don’t take it for granted.

From Cubs notes: 1st time Cubs enter the final day of regular season tied for 1st in division/league since 1908 - Cubs beat NY Giants at Polo Grounds to win NL title, topped Detroit in World Series

This is a good take from Mr. Zaidman

Speaking of living a charmed season....

On the season he's the highest HR/FB rate in baseball at 35%. #2 is JD Martinez at 29%

The first home run he hit last night. I have never seen that kind of power out of him. It was chest high and he just bombed it the other way. It was power I have only seen from big time sluggers. He is going to have a steep drop off next year

If the Cubs end up losing the division by 1 game, the only thing to look back at and point to where they lost it is...

Sept 3-5 and Sept 10-12

6 games against Milwaukee and they lost 4 of them

They win 1 more and split those 6 games, today doesn't matter

The 30 days, the rainouts, Brewers Luck, all the excuses/reasons doesnt matter

As far as today goes, i want to see the bats come out and look like they have a pulse and make things happen ..

I actually think Detroit might steal one today
