I'm really glad we didn't draw Minnesota in the first round. We needed an easy team like Nashville to warm up against. Now we have to take advantage of it and win the next two so we can rest up.

Nashville is in no way an easy draw. They're banged up, and this series could easily be 3-1 the other way.
Rinne has kept Nashville in the series, but it's also amazing how Jones has turned it up due to the loss of Weber. He was flying last night.

Agreed. No such thing as an easy match up in the NHL, let alone in the playoffs. Obviously teams play different styles that may be favorable to the Blackhawks but the Preds are no cake walk. Each series presents a different problem and could go either way depending on who shows up. Personally, I'm not a fan of those who say that the Blackhawks would have won the Stanley Cup if they beat the Kings last year in game 7...there was still a Rangers team with one of the best goaltenders standing in their way. Doesn't matter if the Kings happened to beat them in "just" 5 games.

I still can't believe how physical some of the other series are in the West right now. Ducks/Jets and Flames/Nucks has been highly enjoyable to watch. I think most people knew that they would be throwing their weight around...but wow.

Gotta love playoffs.

Definitely not looking forward to another 10-15 years of Seth Jones in the same division as the Blackhawks.

It's the Predators. They'll lose a few of those players to free agency.

Was it just me or was the ice total shit again last night? Lot's of lost edges, bouncy pucks... the whole series it's seems like they haven't had good ice in either building.

I agree with this sentiment, a banged up team is taking the Blackhawks into OT, twice now. Imagine if they were healthy. Not having a good vibe outside of Darling for our Blackhawks. At times they play real well, and at times they look lost beyond lost. Real strange Jeckal/Hyde thing going on.

At least it's somewhat offset in my mind by the fact Jones played for Portland. I got to see him play for a team I root for. :) It's why I was ecstatic when Hossa made it to the 'hawks.

Need to see this team dominate at least 2 periods in Game 6 on home ice.

Hate to see what the series would be at if Weber were healthy. Hawks just blew a game 5 where the Preds once again didn't have one of the leagues best blueliners in the lineup, were playing a guy in Fisher who is at 75% and a guy in Colin Wilson who was a game time decision due to a leg injury from game 4 and Riebero who isn't 100% himself. Not only did they blow a third period the Hawks let Ribeiro bang the shit out of them and let Colin Wilson skate circles around them and Fisher do what Fisher does. That's why game 5 fucking sucked. Letting an injured player go after Kane the way Riebeiro did and not retaliate or try to get that ****** off his game? Same with Wilson? What the **** happened to the team that exploited other teams hurt players? What happened to wackey wackey Backas?

Wake the **** up Hawks and throw a couple hits on guys that are vulnerable and stop allowing the Preds to dominate in that department. Honestly if the Preds were healthy right now it wouldnt shcok me to see them up 3-2 in this series. Preds have dominated the Hawks 2 games on the scoreboard this series. Hawks have played one dominating game. I know playoff hockey is tight but **** man this is a banged up Preds team here..exploit it.

One thing that's sorely apparent against Nashville is just how much speed the Blackhawks have lost over the past two years. The stretch pass and odd man rushes that they would relentlessly break other teams down with have been completely absent, and now the shoe is on the other foot. Hossa is still a reliable two-way player but at 36 he is struggling to finish and find the net. Sharp is 33 now and a total nonfactor. Kane is getting smothered every time he touches the puck because he's carrying Versteeg and Richards. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see them get bounced in the next round. Their lack of size and physicality was always an acceptable tradeoff given their offensive firepower, but now they've slowed down and it's exposing those weaknesses.

I'd disagree on the speed part of it. Hossa still has pretty good wheels. Sharp's been all over the ice in a few of these games. Kane and Keith still have some of the best wheels in the league, and Saad has shown the ability to outskate opposing defenders as well.

I think your point about passing is on the mark ... they don't seem to hit on as many of those long stretch passes of late.

I would take it a step farther and say they don't seem to be passing well at all for much of these games.... the whole team gets in these passing ruts where they just cannot seem to pass and receive passes well.... lots of pucks in the skates, pucks behind you gotta turn back for, pucks hitting the blade and going wild, drop passes to no one, kicks to the stick going to the opponent, passes off target that put teammates on their backhand.... I feel like they have these passing issues at times in the playoffs every single year, but as the years go on it hurts them more and more.

I felt it was very evident last year against LA.... they had guys receiving passes a foot off the ice in stride and moving down the ice like it was nothing.... on their power plays they would move the puck around with saucer passes and often have no issues handling them.

IMO a big issue in the Hawks power plays is their passing.... they want to set up PP goals with several well-times passes but often they cannot complete individual passes without having to reset.

Passing is not everything but I notice distinctly when the Hawks are having a bad game passing the puck versus when they are passing well and often they win games fairly easily when their passing is on point.

You're being too generous, Ares. This season there have been stretches where the entire team couldn't hit the broadside of Rosie O'donnel with a pass less than halfway across the ice--much less stretch passes. In the playoffs this has been standard faire. Kaner's sweet-ass dish last night is a very rare exception.

As for the rest, Hossa's passing is off like everyone's, but his whells are not--especially since he's still one of the 1st guys in on the backcheck. Sharp, OTOH, is only really noticable on the PP when the PP's effective. Vermette showed up once since coming to the team, and let's be brutally honest, Toews is usually a wiz at faceoffs but is *barely* over 50% and he's our best guy in the dot. Don't get me started on the team D. I won't discount any of the Pred's play, since they are looking good, but for a team with "star power" like the 'hawks they need to play more hungry and less like they're believing their own hype.

The thing I saw last night was that the Preds played the 3rd as if their backs were against a wall. The 'hawks played as if the game didn't matter.
