Neal ramirez just may be the surprise of the year saving the bullpen....

Rondon and Ramirez has been great, and the fact that the Cubs have more hard throwing options in the minors might mean that the bullpen might actually be a strength finally.

Cubs record through 67 games the past five seasons:
2010 30-37
2011 27-40
2012 23-44
2013 28-39
2014 28-39

Just find it interesting with all the talk about the major league roster going backwards you have to go back five years before this team got off to a better start.

That shows they're basically stagnant. I hope it's better after 120 this year. Ya think after the sell-off it will get better?

I find it interesting that despite the repeated sell offs that the results have been the same to start the year.

I will find the season ending record more interesting when it approaches 80 wins.
Talk about a slow build? WOW

It's hard to tell which year was "year one."

I dont think there gonna be much of a sell off of position players unless they plan on bringing up baez bryant and Alcantara..

Valbuena Schierholtz and Bonifacio aren't really gonna bring back much of a return unless their packaged with hammel, so might as well hold onto them til end or maybe til the waiver deals begin when their closer to sept. call ups..

as far as pitchers go.. Samardzija and that only if they get the big package their looking for, which most likely will consist of a younger starter who will slot in his rotation spot..

Hammel who will likely be replaced by hendricks. .

I dont see it being much of a stretch to win 38 more games this season to finish with same as last year unless they lose samardzija and Valbuena and replace them with garbage.

If our OF ever produced, the Cubs may be a couple games away from .500. FO screwed the pooch this offseason on that. There were players there for one year deals. I was big on getting Nelson Cruz. He would have made a big difference.

I think the Cubs should try to trade Schierholtz. Keep Valbuena and possibly Bonifacio depending on the offers. Then I would certainly trade Hammel because he will likely regress off his crazy good start. And then Shark if they get blown away with an offer.

I honestly think this is the last sell off that the Cubs have. I think we sign some vets this offseason and keep them to mold the prospects as they get called up, and more importantly help us win games.

But that is exactly the point, in 2010 and 2011 they stacked up a bunch of meaningless wins to approach 75ish wins those years. Were those teams really any better than the teams that started the year in 2013 or 2014. The records at this point of the season certainly don't seem to indicate that.

Can we just clone Neil Ramirez like 5 times and let them all pitch in the pen?

And that record not only includes that 5 game winning streak but also includes the next five games where they went 1-4.

But that is the point, for all the bitching that the major league roster has gone backwards the reality is we are at the same point. What have we gained at this point a vastly improving minor league system with impact level prospects at the highest levels of the minors. Does that guarantee playoffs in the near future? Of course not, but I like the odds of making it there in the relative near future with the youngest roster in years performing at the same levels as the 2011 roster.

Does this build rebuild seem to be taking an awful long time for the people who have no problem with however long it takes?
Let's get back to the basics that were explained by Ricketts and the FO.

Competitive team will happen when Business side is = or > than Baseball side.
It's not that hard to figure out what's taking so long.

Seriously what part of this is debatable? I didn't say major league talent. There is no guarantee that they will produce, but they have prospects rated as among the best in the game at AA and AAA compared to three years ago when the roster was aging and Baez was in short season ball.
