Since ommy is trying to scramble some eggs, Bryant power rates out as plus plus. He is a prolific power hitter that should walk at an exceptional rate.

Just because there's at least one of everything in this world I guess there has to be someone that questions Kris Bryant's game. There is also a flat earth society.

They're going to be good to him, especially if he has a great season and helps them win. Almora is tearing it up in AAA so far and if that continues will likely be in Chicago in 2017. Fowler is tearing it up in Chicago and will likely get paid a huge amount of money with no QO attached this coming winter. I don't think anyone really though of this as more than a 1 year deal.

I'm not sure Almora matters as much with Fowler. I was thinking about this the other day but you could in theory play Almora in the role we expected to have Soler in. And that might actually be a good way to work Almora in because he's not likely to be an offensive power house. Next year you might have Schwarber take 2-3 PAs in LF and then you could in theory double switch moving Fowler to LF and Almora to CF and have a really strong defensive OF late game.

The problem with that is you still have Soler and unless you trade him he needs the playing time. But from a theoretical stand point, I think something like that would be a good way to work a rookie in rather than just throwing caution to the wind a la Russell in 2015 especially when you consider Almora is more of a glove and anything he gives you offensively is just bonus.

I don't know anyone who thought Arrieta's 2015 was a fluke. Most thought his second half was unsustainable, and probably justifiably so. But here's a scary thought: What if the 2nd half 2015 Arrieta is actually the new Arrieta? There was a quote last year from an anonymous GM--I wish I could still find it--along the lines, "If you think what Arrieta is doing now is historic, wait until he really learns to pitch. Right now he's just scratching the surface."

YearWLERAGGSSVIPSOWHIP
2015 Stats2261.7733330229.02360.86
2016 Stats301.2333022.0200.77

Sick. And the control has been Maddux-like so far. Could he actually be better? Is it really possible?

Better... I mean there's only so much feasibly you can get better. I'm sorta thinking the early 2000's ERA Pedro was the peak you can get to realistically. That being said, I wasn't really sure he'd fall off that hard from last year's second half. He had a 56.2% ground ball rate last year with 9.28 k/9 and 1.89 bb/9. It's really hard to do damage to that sort of pitcher because he didn't give up many HRs and by not walking people it's forcing teams to score by putting a ton of ground balls into places defenders aren't. You then add in his BABIP being .246 and you're talking roughly 25% of the balls being put in play amount to anything. Ground balls tend not to be extra base hits so having to do that 2 or 3 times an inning is daunting.

Almora really does seem to have figured it out at the plate and that defense would be very welcome. Not much not to like from Fowler but he wants to get paid and if he has another good season he should.

Yeah I mean if Fowler has the season he appears to be having I'm sure he'll want to void the option and go back to FA. Just saying that the cubs could make him work with Almora

Oh, don't worry about Ommy. He is just trolling. Think of him a caricature inside a caricature. I just responded to him because of the 50 homerun thing. He said Bryant doesn't make enough contact, so I promptly gave him Chris Davis stats.

I'm not trolling. I have been a Cubs fan longer than you have been alive. I was the guy in the stands when they had 2500 people every game, so stop with that shit

What I am is a realist. I can like Chris Bryant but can also make assessments on his good and bad points. Whether you like it or not he isnt a 50 HR guy because he strikes out like crazy. His swing is loopy and he chases balls then tries to pull pitches low and away. On the defensive side he has short range and even then he makes errors.

I'm hoping he can fix some of these things and when he does I will say so.

What? You said he doesn't make enough contact to hit 50 homeruns. I gave you Chris Davis stats when he hit over 50 with 199 strikeouts. So, you are wrong on that. You say he has a long, loopy swing. He doesn't. Its a smooth swing and he actually cut down on the steepness of the swing, so he can get to low balls better. He will never be a GG, but he is average to a touch better at third and also can play all the OF spots. So, you are wrong. He is 24 years old and scouts and GM's rave about him. It seems you are the only one seeing something, but tell me your not trolling Scrambly.

"I've been watching baseball for a really long time, and I've seen some really awful play. Therefore, everything that far smarter men than me have learned about baseball over the past 20 years is wrong. Krissy Bryant is a #6 hitter and bad fielder. Now get the **** off my lawn."

Why did I suspect you would stick your nose into this and claim I have no right to an opinion and not debate the points I made. Idiot

As I said yesterday, you are fully entitled to post your pea-brained, numbskull opinions, just as I am fully entitled to critique them.

But you arent critiquing them, you just say I'm wrong without any debate. That's why you are an idiot
