I know there's an evil thought process behind all your compliments. I'm just not sure what it is yet

Honestly I am still every bit the hater, but come on now. The Cubs are a great team. I still hope they fail, but my wallet trumps my heart.

Lucroy and Braun are out for the Brewers. I thought we would see Baez and Soler today, but Joe is starting Zobrist.

Looking at the guys on the bench. .
Maddon said keeping Federowicz gives him more options. .
Not sure how having 2 RH catchers who barely hits and 2 IFs gives him more options

They really need Szczur back

My guess, so he can pinch hit Ross or Montero when they are on the bench without thought. It allows him to still have a catcher in case something happens. This is originally was the plan with Schwarber, Ross, and Montero. Fed(Idont care to spell the rest of his name) sucks doe so I dont know how long it will last.

Yea but only having 4 bench guys, he basically wasting a PH to bat for another Catcher .. it not really an upgrade to bat one for the other..

Like last night, the international walk aside.. was it really necessary to bat Montero for Ross in that situation ?

At least with Schwarber being the 3rd Catcher, he able to play and start at another position.

Federowicz isn't going to stay long. I think they just wanted to see how Montero responded for a few games and Szczur was supposed to have been back by tomorrow or so. With his rehab assignment having been delayed until today I think you could see a move before he's ready but if he looks good today and tomorrow in Tennessee I think you may see him hop a flight to SF on Saturday. Baez' flexibility really allows Maddon some wiggle room in the late innings.

Guerra might be the kind of pitcher Soler can hit. He primarily throws a 4 seam-fastball and a splitter. If he throws the FB in the zone Soler might get hold of one or two. Of course he could totally vex him with the splitter too. I'd really like to see Soler do something here.

Nice 4 pitch walk to Flores. Not sure if it's the .195 batting average or the .284 OBP that scared him.

Plays every AB like he's praying for a walk. He should have hammered the 3-0 and 3-1 pitches. So tired of watching him try to pull sliders on the outer half. Maybe teams wouldn't play that ridiculous shift on him if he'd grow a brain.

Lot of Cubs players have the same issue trying to pull outside pitches

Soler has no value to this team. He is a defensive liability and one of the worst hitters in baseball.

Just Maddon's ego now that he even plays

I've never been a huge Soler fan but he isn't going to stay this bad, he just isn't. Ideally they'd like to ride this out until he improves both for their future and for any trade value but I agree it may not be possible. His option is tricky though and has to be managed well or basically they'll be throwing him away and this is a player with too much upside for that.

When I think of his upside I'm thinking .235, 17 HRs, 55 RBI, having to be pulled defensively every game and a billion rallies killed.

Is that the kind of guy teams are looking for or has a place on the Cubs? He's not even Pinch Hit material as everyone on the bench is more relaible that him

I know Maddon has an ego and doesnt want to cave to those that want him to give up on Soler. OTOH, even the Cubs would admit they tried to trade him last offseason and no other team saw any value

I think he has much bigger upside and I'm not even a fan. His tools alone are going to get him better numbers than that. He's still played very limited innings of pro ball.

I would rather have Adam LaRoche's kid than Soler
