Cogs isn't ever gonna be a star but he's one hell of a ball player. Love that effort.

10 hits and only 3 runs....leaving too many runs on the base paths. That usually spells trouble...need to tack on one or two more.

Not happy about going to the pen with just a 2 run lead.

The question is...who's he going with? Strop would be my guess.

Absolutely and totally inexcusable....can't walk a guy there, just can't do it.

I've never been comfortable with Strop on the mound. He reminds me a lot of Marmol

Jon Lester has now made 28 starts. This was his 10th start of 7+ innings and one run or less. If he doesn't get the win, this would be the SIXTH time he went 7+ innings of 2 ER or less and did not get a win.

The one thing I really don't like about the Cubs bullpen is they simply don't have a lefty out of the pen who really limits lefties. Rosscup only lets lefties hit .125 but the rest, nope.

Unbelievable

Why take Lester out in that situation?

He's been dominate all game long, and the Cards just wrecked the pen last night..

There goes any chance at the division

Don't say that around here, Frankie. These guys will pummel you with stats showing he's the greatest thing since indoor plumbing. Just makes me crazy when a ML pitcher walks a guy...especially in game situations. Strop has done this before and he continues to do it...unacceptable and I don't give a flying **** about his stats. He just gave a dead team life.

This one is on maddon

He yanks lester.....why
He inserts strop....why, he gets pounded by stl
He continues to insert richard vs tough lhp late in games....why, the guy was a waiver wire reject about 4 weeks ago

They took 2 out of 3 was the brightside.

Maddon is probably watching Lester's innings for the playoffs. Even if they swept the Cardinals, 5.5 back is still a long shot to get the division. I don't have a problem with the move. Sucks that they lost this one though.

Yeah stats can be argued for or against players. Stats can be very overrated. Strop doesn't pass the eye test for me. He's got great stuff but very little control. Walks a lot of guys and makes me nervous as shit when he's on the mound

Strop's numbers are all worse the higher leverage the situation gets. He's not an eighth inning guy, seventh inning guy.

Cubs third loss against St Louis with the lead in the seventh inning or later aka the 6.5 game lead in the division and the 2.5 games they trail in the WC.

On the bright side, I won't be stressing about the division anymore

Hope we are back in STL come October

At the very least, Cubs know they can beat the Cards
