Yeah, the Cubs are totally going to trade away 40 HR a year guy who Theo Epstein loves because "reasons." And the smoking gun is that he was removed from a meaningless game in late September.

Got it.

A clinch game is a meaningless game? really? its on you if you do not see the pattern with Joe using Schwarber.

get it over with by winning not waiting for Milwaukee to lose.

Yes, a clinch game is meaningless when there are five more clinch games after it and your odds of not winning the division are somewhere around a few hundredths of one percent.

Nothing worse than baseball drama queens.

This has nothing to do with what is currently happening. It is a clear pattern on how Joe is not very interested in playing Schwarber regularly. Do you get the point of the posts?

I will just wait and see if you are one of the whiners when Schwarber is dealt this winter.

It's a clear pattern on how Joe doesn't play Schwarber vs LHP. By this logic he's trading Almora next year too for not playing vs RHP.

Nobody says it is "must win". But it is not meaningless.

Meaningless is the game after you clinch, when no home field advantage is on the line.

If the Cubs wanted to trade Schwarber they would've thrown him in the Quintana deal and kept Eloy Jimenez. The fact that they hung on the Schwarber--in the midst of an awful first half and having just demoted him to AAA--while jettisoning the Top 5 prospect who would've ultimately replaced him--should tell you everything.

So good luck holding your breath all winter, cupcake.

The Cubs will clinch tonight. You can see the electorns spin and slide to their highest energy state with this one.

Lackey clinches in St. Louis, the Bears play the Packers tomorrow. natural equilibrium.

Its happening tonight.

would have been nice to still have Eloy, traded for Andrew Miller, and still had Quintana but I also believe in Kyles ability to rebound and be a good hitter down the line as in next year.

I think he's trying to hit too many HR and when he goes back to what shot him up the minors, he'll be fine. I tend to think the Cubs and their idea on launch angle and power might have fucked with his head/swing.

Schwarber's issues have relatively little to do with him swinging for the fences as some people seem to suggest. The biggest problem he has right now is hitting on the inner third right now is basically impossible. On the outer third specifically in the bottom half he crushes. That can be seen here. If you compare that with say Rizzo's heatmap, you can see that Rizzo is covering more of the inner third. But what's interesting is if you look at Rizzo in 2013 you see a very similar heat map to Schwarber. And like Schwarber, Rizzo struggled early in his career because of it albeit not to the levels Schwarber did in April and May.

Regardless, if we go back to june Schwarber is hitting .241/.336/.560 with a 129 wRC+. K rate is pretty high at 32.5% but that 129 wRC+ if it were over the full season Schwarber would be 31st among all hitters in the majors. It's even better since he returned in july at 132.

Where are you getting any of this?

The absolute LAST thing this team needs is to allow these pukes to bait them into a brawl. Injuries and suspensions are not needed. But Cards, knowing that they have nothing to lose, will be headhunting. The Toy LaRussa influence lives on.

Lackey is like the Dennis Rodman of baseball.

He brings a lot on himself, but then does actually get the shaft because of it.

The Cubs are playing this like it is the post-clinch hangover game.

As good as he's been down the stretch Lackey will get 1 year $10-12 mil from someone. I'll be curious what he does.
