For many, many years I've watched this team struggle just to be in contention and fail miserably over and over....now, three straight years in playoffs. Great job from everyone in the front office to every player on the field.

My Cards fan friend went on and on last year about their injuries, while they were 17 out.

This year, they have had one even relatively major injury. Cubs saw all 5 starters on DL, plus Russell and Contreras. And will finish roughly 7 up on them.

Something interesting. It was said that this is the first team to win their division after winning the World Series since 2009. I didn't realize how much of an impact winning has been on teams the next year.

Good job Chicago. It looked like the trend would continue but this team bore down and took control. Should be a fun postseason.

I don't think people had the slightest comprehension going in how difficult a task it is to win the year following a WS win. Listening to folks talk you would have thought it was a cakewalk.

1) Has Lackey ever pitched out of the pen?

2) Do the Cubs have better long-relief options in the pen?

All depends on if they and Lackey feel he is able to get loose and ready on short notice like those guys do..

Lackey would be a great option to have in case a game blew up early and you needed someone to go out there and hog up innings to keep the rest of the pen in better shape for a better day.
Being short on lefties, the less you have to burn through Montgomery the better.

I'll tell you what, I'm damned sure Lackey would try. I know a lot of people don't like him but I always have. Dude's a gamer and yes, he's a better option than some.

I think it goes beyond a little more then him trying though...
He been a starter his whole career, ss you know it a different animal between getting warmed up to start a game and relieving...

That said i think they probably add him because he Lackey and there really isnt 2 definate better options after these 6..
