I want someone as good as Arrieta or better. It doesn't matter who. As far as a bat, Coghlan has been very good. I am no longer certain that they will go after one in the off-season.

Yea, remember when people thought that about Nate as well. I would much rather have him coming off the bench then starting.

Yep. Understood. But is there a baseline with Coghlan? He's been injured an awful lot in his career? He was first rounder IIRC. But he would make a good 4th OF, too. I'm just not sure he hasn't done enough to change the thought process.

A lot could change in a few days with our Septmeber call ups. Olt might get more playing time again and if he could hit over .250 the rest of the way he may get LF next year.

Alcantara has been playing very well the last week. Hope he is getting back into his groove. Fell off there, the first few weeks in August. Could be his adjustments

Im thinking they get a veteran Ofer that would help bring along these kids..

Id look for a veteran Latin OFer that might be a good candidate to teach and sign a 2 yr deal and that may be the guy they go after. .

Rizzo out again. . This went from 1 game to 4 and probably 5 assuming he misses the 2nd game too.. hope this isn't something that sets him back and makes his alter his swing or something. .

I don't see them doing that. If Bryant takes over 3b next year, and Russell is a mid-season-late season call up, then he is blocked by the LF we sign.

I hope this is just them being extra cautious because there's no reason to rush him back and risk turning something (hopefully) minor into something major and lingering...

I didn't imply he would play LF. If Russell is ready we would move Bryant or Castro to the OF, meaning LF would be blocked by whoever we would sign. And it wouldn't be rushing Russell, he is on the same path (age-wise and development wise) as Baez who is here now at 21 (Russell would be 21 next year). It would be waste of money to sign a LF, especially since we could fill it from within.

That was the correct play. There was 1 out in the inning and it took a perfect relay to get him. I will live with that everytime because the relay would not get him more often then not.

No offense, but I think we need to stop making excuses for Castro. It was a lousy play on his part, imo. He needs to make his decision before reaching 2nd base, and then put his head down, and get to 3rd base. He doesn't need to be looking backwards at the throw.

That's just terrible base running. He then made a lousy defensive play right after that. These are things that a SS on a Championship team don't do. These are plays that will hurt the Cubs in a huge game. Apparently, he is just not learning from it. I still believe these plays will get his butt traded, no matter how well he plays offensively.

Personally, I think the Cubs would be better off having a great defensive SS that can hit for some average.

Will you be disappointed when/if they add only one ace?

What kind of question is this? I don't understand why some posters are so confrontational on this forum. Of course I'll be happy with whatever the Cubs do to improve the team, and at this point, I wouldn't count out any possibilities.

Disappointed over a guy that has said he wants back to Boston?

I see you're a Sox fan. Awesome year by Abreu. However, I bet there are quite a few pitchers that are taking notice of what the Cubs are doing. They have got to think the Cubs are a good option cuz of the run support they could get. Also, I'm sure a WS in Chicago with the Cubs could be a major attraction as well. The Cubs winning a WS will be as huge as anything. Free agent pitchers very well could be lining up to play in Wrigley.

In Game 1, with a poor pitcher on the mound, Renteria decides to sit Soler. Rizzo out still. Watkins, Valaika and Baker in the lineup.

Wants to be sure we let Cards win the first game today.

No one is making excuses. It was the right play. Damn if you do, damn if you dont.

How can umps get NO calls correct ?

That was actually not even questionable, and will easily be overturned.

I was just thinking theyd give him the Bryant treatment, even if he rocks AAA like bryant is doing, and wait til 2016 with him.

This way come off season they can decide if they want to trade castro or not..

They need an everyday veteran presence in their lineup to keep the kids loose and stuff, Rizzo and Castro are Vets but young ones..

Giving a reasonable 2 yr deal wouldn't be blocking anyone

Could be....I'll wait and see before proclaiming it

Great year by Rizzo. :)
