Those last two plays were the definition of baseball. Gonzalez makes soft contact and gets a hit. Hernandez blister a ball and the Cubs turn 2 to end the inning.

I posted Friday that it was a pleasure to listen to him, and it is. And I believe he is a national treasure. But he has had several missteps in the last few days, the most glaring of which was saying Sandberg was called Prince Valiant during his playing days since he always wore his hair to his shoulders. WHAT?

But I will give ol' Vin a ton of leeway. He is still so much better at his age than so many younger guys. And no stammering, stuttering, etc like Mike Shannon, for example.

My favorite line of his this weekend was when Szczur got a key hit. Rather than "Hail, Szczur" like every other announcer and writer, Vin throws out "Render unto Caesar all that is Caesar's."

2-1 pitch to Russell was a mile outside, and ump lazily calls it based on the glove (once the ump turned his attention back to the game)

Made a huge difference. Russell later swung at another pitch was outside because he knew he couldn't take it.

I know Rizzo paid to drive in runs but sometimes I wish he'd just drop a bunt down third just to get baserunning on, especially late and bats are struggling.
