I am ok with him starting on opening day for another 10 years.

And don't call me Shirley.
You think getting chased early deserves a prestigious spot? At this point it looks like a participation award.

Surely this is Lester's last opportunity to start on the bump opening day for the Cubs.

Funny thing is....today was his third opening day start for the Cubs and this is the only one the Cubs won.

Maybe we should play D behind him, too.

But unlike others, I will not rush to pile on a guy who had less than stellar stuff.

Every team in baseball starts their ace today, and half those teams will be 0-1 tonight. It happens.

Lester is tough, and a winner. He "participated" us to a world series win. I am not trashing him.

(Plus the comment was tongue in cheek, as nobody would think he'd be pitching in ten years. But, whatever.)

Opening day goes to a #1. If Lester is a #1, I've got a bridge to sell you. Opening Day starter is an honor. Lester didn't get chased becauae he didn't have D. His stuff wasn't staff ace stuff, let alone good stuff for him. Someone else should the honor next year.

Meanwhile, the MVP Derek Jeter gave away to his old team has two HR's today. (And 24/7 coverage by every sports network!)

"Wait, Derek, you gave them Stanton, and asked for zero players in return?? That's the biggest favor you could have done for them!"

"Nope, I did more than that. I allowed them to dump Castro, who they no longer had any use for!" Are we sure he doesn't own a piece of the Yankees?

I don't care who starts opening day 2019, as we have several capable people to do the job.

It's 2018, which is going to be a fun year. I will worry about 2019 in 2019.

But when I need to win a postseason game in 2018, I am perfectly happy giving him the ball.

Im sure he had no problem helping the yankees out for these next couple years while he tears down his Marlins team and hopes the yanks win multiple championships..
Thing is, while the yankees are paying Stanton a total of 204 mil from age 32 to 38 starting in 4 years, jeter hopes to be where the Cubs and Astros are now and starts winning himself..

Agreed. Does Mattingly see that through?

He young enough being just 57 this month, and he has that yankees connection with Jeter..

He has a year left on deal, I can see Jeter extending him if these guys play hard for him and he wants to stick around

The Yankees connection is obvious. He did not embrace metrics as much as a lot of managers when he was in LA.

Happ HR and 3 Ks...

Maddon most likely sits him and Heyward tomorrow against the lefty and starts Almora and Zobrist

Happ is a switch hitter, Schwarber probably gets the day off.

Kershaw is "getting rocked" tonight.

1-0 in the 6th. :)

Seems like SF has had 100 baserunners, but a solo HR is all the scoring.

The HR was the first run allowed by Kershaw this year - including Spring Training!

Glad we got the win, but Lester hasn't been the same since Grandpa retired.

That's good stuff, loved the Derek Jeter reference.

How cool if Happ after hitting the 1st HR of the season and a huge "not putting the cart before the horse" but Happ with the walk off in Game 7 WS 2018.

Homers on first and last swing of 2018.....that would be pretty sweet.

I'd like to see that, too, but even the worst team wins some games during the season. A 3 game sweep is tough enough. You and I are both asking for a 4 game sweep.

I always look at it as let's win one series at a time. If you keep winning each series, the record will add up. So give me at least 3 wins.
