If Montgomery continues to impress with his starts..

Do they trade Chatwood or does that make Monty a more attractive trade piece

Why are you so anxious to trade away starting pitching?
Why would trading Chatwood right now be likely, or why would it bring anything of value?

Not talking about now...

Darvish probably wont return for another week or two..
He rehabbing now but hasn't thrown yet..

But

Just tossing it out there cause you never know..

Monty heart is into starting...
We have just seen in his last 2 starts just how much, with him giving it all..

You tell him he back in the pen after Darvish returns and Chatwood continues to shit the bed or even improves enough to look decent..

Someone getting moved because of Monty not starting somewhere in 2nd half, i dont think his head going to be in it 100% continuing to come out of pen..

Just my thoughts

You're missing the point.
I know you don't mean BEFORE Darvish returns.

The point is, 5 starters with one option to be the 6th is not an overabundance. We do not need to trade anyone. It would leave us with zero depth.

John Smoltz is asking the obvious question: Why do managers use so many pitchers, increasing the chance of one guy not being on his game?

Smoltz is currently a good color analyst, very good in studio, and is trying his hand on the Sr PGA Tour. If he needs another job, Manager or GM might suit him well. He doesn't get stuck in "the book".

Jesus, this team strikes out a lot!!

I can understand against deGrom, but in general, we just don't make sure we make contact. We don't move runners. It may cost us this game.

C'mon, BamBam.

If Chatwood continues to shit the bed their doing something with him, he not going to continue to start...

Otherwise I just think if Monty continues to impress and Chatwood figures it out..

I just think they might use one in a deal to upgrade another position, mainly because of Monty and his desire to start..
I could be wrong but I just think if Monty dont get that opportunity to continue to start, especially after getting this taste and succeeding as he has so far, we might see a disgruntled Monty in the 2nd half coming out of pen..

We'll see

How did they not have a play at 3rd on that play? Rizzo was 1/3rd the way there when the CF picked up the ball.

Chatwood would be moved to the "6th/spot starter" position.

Monty can like it or not. He can't declare himself a FA in the middle of the year and leave.

These announcers said in beginning of game, they Avg. 5 runs per but it should be a whole lot more ..

They hurt themselves because they fail to move runners along, make contact when needed, and don't drive in runners in scoring position

Their not going to keep Chatwood in the pen if he continues to suck...
What would be the benefit of that?

Spot start ? So he can go 2 innings?

If he continues to look bad as they enter July, their not wasting a bullpen spot on him

Monty.... I do agree with you
But
Not that he gonna ask to be traded or he might , it has happened...
Just think if they have a move they want to make, he may be that piece used

Well they won't DFA him with that contract he has....it isn't the NFL. He's gonna get paid. He has good stuff and does have some good innings....maybe shorter stints in relief is the way to go.

BTW, someone has Wilson throwing more sliders....which is a very good thing.

I think they might..

If he gets claimed, no loss

If he clears, then great he'll get to work it out in Iowa

If you're listening to Smoltz he just explained why i feel there will be some changes in cubs lineup next season..

Not specifically talking about the cubs but it is a cubs problem..

Basically saying it Not a good thing to have a lineup filled with shift hitters and guys who can't make simple contact when needed to move up that are in scoring position....
