Well Cubs only up 3 in the L column. Perhaps one of you can quote a stat that shows how unlikely it is that the Cubs don't win the division? Seems like Cubs are praying to God that the clock runs out on the Brewers.

Last I looked they were close to 94% to win division and 99% to go to the playoffs. They really only need to play .500 ball the rest of the way.

MLB really botched this series. Lester should have never went Friday. The Jayson Werth ceremony made us wait for that final rain delay and I am pretty sure tocdays game wont be played.

That is what I was saying. 11-11 gives 94 wins.

The 3 games vs the Brewers will be huge.

Miley vs Lester
Chacin vs Quintana
Anderson vs Hendricks

So this series could end up dictating the central. Cubs go into the Reds after. Mil into the Pirates. It feels push so this series is the pivot.

Mil:
Vs giants
3 vs Cubs
3 vs Pirates
3 vs Reds
3 vs Pirates
3 vs Cards
3 vs Det

So pretty lax ending

Chi:
1 vs Nats
3 vs Mil
3 vs Reds
3 vs DBacks
3 vs W.Sox
4 vs Pirates
3 vs Cards

D Backs series is a harder challenge than anything the Crew has going on. Det/Sox are a wash. If They don't create space in this series Mil has the advantage.

I sure can show some numbers that show how unlikely it is that the Brewers win the division but for the glass empty crowd it wouldn't matter so why bother?

Oh what the ****, here it is anyway: Even if the Cubs go .500 in their last 20 games the Brewers would have to play .619 ball to win the division. The Cubs haven't gone .500 in a 20 game span since early May. The Brewers have never had a 20 game stretch at as high as a .619 clip. Their last 20 games at .600 is their high water mark for a 20 game span. The Cubs are 37-24 since August 1, the Brewers are 33-28. The Cubs are a better team, the odds that those trends reverse themselves are infinitesimal.

I find it interesting that a week after wringing their hands that the Cubs will lose the division, the doom and gloomers are claiming to have been proven right, as the lead is now "only" three in the loss column with 20 to play.

The division is by no means clinched for the Cubs. But Milwaukee's task is still a tough one. It is absolutely possible the Cubs don't win the division, but the doom and gloomers feel it is a sure thing.

The independent folks who do the math have it as very likely the Cubs win the Central.

Let's just wait and see what happens the next three days. If the Cubs win Monday, everything looks different instantly. Milwaukee has very little room for error.

no, lester should have never gone Friday, but that is on Maddon not MLB. Now of course they will push Lester in to throw Monday and throw everyone else off their daily work.

What should Maddon have done Friday, if not start his scheduled starter?

Throw a bunch of crappy bullpen pitchers, assuming the game would not count? He can't know that. He could have fallen behind immediately - as they did Saturday - and the game could have been played to the point where it would be suspended, not cancelled.

Ironic given the team that was supposed to dethrone the cubs was a STL team who gone from ~10% chance down to a 1% chance. The discussion should have always been MIL because MIL was always a better team than STL. Thing is just like with STL if they stumble even a little it's over. I mean the cubs can literally end this at wrigley with lester, q(who's pitching better of late) and hendricks on the mound.

There was very little chance the game friday was going to be played, and if it was, they were as close to being guaranteed a delay if not stopping the game. So yeah, you throw the bullpen to the wolves Friday and save Lester for Saturday. At least you might have gotten 5 out of Lester saturday instead of giving the game away.

It's so bizarre that people focus on these small samples of Milwaukee winning 8 of 10 and just assume it's going to continue for the remaining 20 games of the season, instead of them playing the ~.550 ball they've been doing over a 130-game sample size. I will just never understand the handwringing of fans like this. It makes no sense.

It was one thing to say this at the all star break when they started to fall back, but 20 games left its alot closer to just needing a small run. Its so bizarre that people still consider their season a small sample size, and probably a year ahead of schedule.

Cubs scheduled 23 straight days and now lose their off day. They’re getting fucked by mother nature.

Cubs have more talent than the teams chasing them. If they don't get the job done, it's their own fault, not mother nature's.

Jesus Christ! So some people take every fucking comment defensively?

I am not suggesting they should lose the division because of mother nature. But do you not think mlb completely fucked them this weekend? Played friday when they should not have, and called it when they should have played.

One day off in a month....gone.

And all I said was that it was bad luck, which it clearly is.

The division lead should have been larger than it was. Yes MLB fucked the Cubs but mostly, Cubs have been fucking themselves

Been fucked by rain and the cold all season. Why stop now I guess? Honestly it's fairly impressive they haven't had more bad streaks given how many days they've been forced to play back to back because of cancelled games.
