Does this team even have a guy pretending to be a hitting coach? I mean, its not rocket science. Tough pitches, yeah sure they are but only one of them was a strike. You gotta lay off those pitches, get up on the plate a little and either drive it the other way or take it. Pitchers are on to the fact that Bryant doesn't adapt...he needs to. A good coach would have already enlightened him.
Bryant's Dad is a former pro. Whether he adjusts or not is something his dad is likely helping him with, too.

What's everyone's take on the kid's catching? He does a lot better job of framing than I would have expected. Jury is still out on throwing.

I thought he was looking pretty good too. I'm wondering if the concerns are less with the ability to play the position and more with learning the game management portion. ESPN had something talking about them not having him catch Lester and Arrieta to make it easier on him. That part of the game is just something you learn over time and it can be an important thing especially as the cubs start to bring in younger pitchers presumably soon.

Well with everyone talking about how bad he was at catching, I was expecting him to just let every pitch hit his chest protector. He's not bad at all, but like you said throwing is still TBD

That makes sense but I think I'd like to get him accustomed to catching our better pitchers....maybe not Lester with his first base phobia, let Ross take that. But I'd like to see him start to catch Arrieta so they can get on the same page with each other.

That's part of Castro trying to pull everything. If he would have actually timed to the hole that was open, it would have worked.

Right. That's really weird that he's been trying to pull everything though, his first few years with us he was such a good opposite field hitter.

Seriously, I'm not blaming umpires for our offensive woes his year, but something has to be done with all this inconsistency.

Hendricks dropped his ERA another 0.1 tonight. He's starting to close in on that FIP(3.45 vs 3.25)

I've been saying that for weeks....balls & strikes are the worst I've seen in a long, long time.

No kidding man. I thought I was just imagining stuff (you know, offense sucks so you want a scapegoat) but holy ****. Now I'm all for umpires having their own zones, but they are all over the goddamn place and inconsistent as hell.
