When was last time a team had consecutive no.1 draft picks (non pitcher ) starting together in that 3rd year...

well if you exclude the non-pitcher thing pretty sure Harper and Strasburg count as #1 picks overall too. You could likely go through the top 5 picks the past couple of years and find out for sure as I doubt anyone out side the top 5 picks would move fast enough but nothing comes to mind.

Harper didn't play with nationals in 2011 after being drafted in 2010..
Strasburg drafted in 2009, played in 2011..

After the last Cardinal game and now this one, I think don't Maddon will be either. He's in his meat mode. Regardless, another damn game with only 2 runs...tough to win with that kind of support.

I'm thinking Strop might be the odd man out when Soriano comes up unless we can trade Jackson or Wood. & I agree. 2 runs isn't enough man, not with this line-up

I say we leave Russell at 2B (unless we trade Castro then he can go to SS) but I wouldn't mind seeing Fowler gone in CF. We need an experienced bat bad

Fowler was pretty good tonight. 1-3 with a walk and was on base another time on an error and that's against a righty with good stuff. He got picked off once which isn't amazing but least his bat came to play.

Still though he's batting .233 on the season and his OBP is barely over .300. You definetly would want more than that from your leadoff hitter.

Still though he's batting .233 on the season and his OBP is barely over .300. You definetly would want more than that from your leadoff hitter.

He's hitting .233/.310/.369 this season. League average for CF is .263/.323/.402. He's only 13 points off league average in OBP and I'm guessing the last 3 months have been the worst of his career for any span that long. And obviously you ideally want a better than league average player. I'm just saying for arguably the worst slump of his career he's not be that far off league average and he's clearly a far better hitter than he was the first half. And the thing with slumps is players tend to average out toward career norms so if a guy is playing this bad in the first half chances are he's going to play well in the second half to average down. It's what we we saw in the first two months with Coghlan and then in June he had the 6th highest OBP in baseball.

Now whether or not he should be bating leadoff is another question entirely but I will say they don't have a ton of options. It's basically him or Coghlan.

They are paying him 9 mil to give what Alcantara would have in CF if they stayed status que. I call it a disappointing decision.
