And some day you may stumble over a brain.....last 10 outings. 9+ innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and 15 K's.

One bad one and he's done.

What a mope.....
Poopypants should follow the yellow brick road.

How is everyone gassed? They won 13-2 yesterday. If he was going to have Edwards take one for the team, he wouldn't have brought Smith in to give up the slam. Need Rondon healthy.
Smith sucks, I think that already been established...

Grimm Smith and wood pitched an inning yesterday

Grimm Smith Wood Montgomery (2 innings) and Chapman all pitched Thursday

So that basically left Edwards to get it done and hopefully get through that 8th today and then Chapman in 9th with tie or lead...
10th would of been Montgomery

So yea, the pen a bit gassed without Strop and Rondon still on Roster but not ready

I get why they got Smith but I gotta say I'd rather have had Nathan in that spot.

I'm glad someone gets why they traded for him. I surely don't know...unless they needed a new BP pitcher, I see little upside on this guy.

The Cubs have a 4 man bullpen and 2 are injured so of course the bullpen will be either gassed or poopy quite often down the stretch.

I get why you think that, but the whole pen isn't gassed. More importantly for Edwards to take one for the team, he would have been left in. Maddon left him in for one batter too many. It isn't very often I can say that Maddon made a mistake, but in this instance I think he did.

They wanted someone who throws from a funky angle because all their arms are power arms. I didn't like the trade but I understand it.

You and I can guess Maddon thought process but we will never know the reasoning..

I just think he was hoping to avoid using wood and Grimm as they've been used 3 days in row..

And he probably pushed Edwards to hopefully finish the inning to avoid bringing in Smith or Montgomery so he can have them in case the game went extras.

OH well, on to tomorrow and hopefully a better game and results..

@TheCCO: Maddon said if he had other options today he probably would not have left Edwards Jr. out there as long as he did. #Cubs

Actually 5....Rondon and Strop both injured. And with Smith pitching like he's injured, he wasn't too far off.

The Nationals have officially announced that they’ve released former closer Jonathan Papelbon, making him a free agent. The Nats had initially told Papelbon they intended to designate him for assignment, as Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post writes (Twitter links). Papelbon instead requested to be released, since the process of being designated for assignment could result in him being in DFA limbo for up to ten days. The Nationals agreed, although they waited for much of the day Saturday to make the move official. Papelbon’s release clears space for Reynaldo Lopez, who will start tonight against the Braves.

Basically he requested to be released. I got a feeling he will be a Cub
