If cubs offense struggle today with 2 rookies going with ERA in the 5s, then theo and jed need to be on the horn this weekend looking for upgrades....

He has had his gaffes. The biggest thing is he may force the Cubs to move him off later in the year if he continues not to hit. Remember, Baez is already rehabbing and LaStella has to show up at some point. Russell is young, but the Cubs lineup isn't the Jays lineup. Russell has to show more at the plate especially if we hit mid August and we are right in the thick of things.

The thing is any team already has guys getting paid a lot less that could do no worse than EJ

They need to find a guy who can add a spark to offense. ..
Wheather it an obp guy with speed they can plug into lead off spot or a guy who can just plain hit and can plug into middle of order and drive in runs. ..
Wheather its a guy they can plug into LF every day and benefit having cogs and denorfia on bench..
Im not against releasing / trading Fowler if they can upgrade in CF .. about 4.5 mil left this yr on deal..
Im sure im probably the only one who thinks Russell needs to go back down and work on his hitting and find it again to be ready for 2016... i see his confidence dipping every game, you can see it in his eyes/face.. he needs to get rejuvenated. ..
One of those 3 spots id look to upgrade at ....

Just thinking here. . With offensive woes now, would really suck to lose back to back series against team hated rivals in cards and sox..

You are not alone. I think the Cubs would send him back down. His BABIP is pretty normal and he is still hitting like this. He isn't hitting for power or gap power. He is being destroyed by breaking pitches. I just don't think they are going to go outside the org for a bat unless its a platoon type off the bench. Remember, the Cubs are looking further then this year. They are not going to give up much for a rental that may help the club. Thats why I said, let some players get healthy and things will shake more out. Baez should start playing soon. If he comes back and rakes, the Cubs are going to forced to bring him up. Alcantara has just crumbled this year. Horrible June with a monster K rate again. He has lost his way for this year.

Boy, leadoff walk and nothing. Rizzo and Bryant haven't been the greatest from June on. Both hitting in the .260's and not much power.

The wind is either really blowing in or Castro ball completely fooled me. I thought that was a gapper and it just like died all of the sudden.
