That's not exactly true. He was hitting very well when he went down slashing .308/.438/.590 in his last 15 games and a respectable .250/.345/.421 in his last 30. That said I don't think Soler is a fast starter and needs playing time to get going so it might be tough for him to make an impact this year.
Long term there is no place on this team for him and there are better alternatives already on the team and available on the market. He is just a guy

Still a guy with a very high ceiling, although the injuries are hurting his value some. He's going to get playing time as I seriously doubt they'll burn his option by leaving him in the minors.

Just about the only consistent bat for the Cubs in last year's playoffs....he will definitely get a shot. Should be interesting seeing how it plays out.

At this point I would rather it be Montero. He has been bad on D and with the bat. At least Pop Pop Ross has good defense.

Clayton Richard was released and the peasants rejoiced. Matusz also cleared waivers though he could elect for FA rather than reporting to AAA.

He should probably elect to look for another line of work.

I'd be dollars to donuts that someone picks him up for the stretch run. Doesn't mean he'll stick, I kind doubt he will, but he'll get a shot. I've always said if your kid is left handed put a baseball in his hand and let him throw, if he makes it he'll always a job.

Well no one claimed him on waivers. Honestly, not really sure why he'd elect FA rather than return to Iowa. Cubs obviously were one to believe in him and no one was willing to roster him. So, if he's gonna be in AAA might as well be a team that actually believed in you enough to let you have a start.

Yeah, but they just took him off waivers from another team that claimed him that didnt even think he was good enough to get a start. I highly doubt it was a contract situation, he is only at 507,000, so free agency wont be a different dollar amount. Somebody picked this kid 4th overall in 2008, so you think there is something there, but he needs to get back to where he was before his pitching coaches started to fix him.

Cubs didn't take him off waivers. He was traded to atlanta(more like the o's paid to make him leave) and then Atlanta released him. The cubs then signed him as a minor league FA. Anyone could of A) had him in a trade from the O's and B) picked him up as a FA afterward.

So, since 1950, the cubs 11.2% non-pitcher walk rate would be the 46th best team walk rate. The 51 Red Sox were the best at 12.7%. This just in, Ted Williams and his 21.3% for that season wasn't quite bad. That guy might have a future in baseball.

Knowing how the Cubs are against bad/mediocre pitchers....I shouldn't even be mentioning this but....Dillion Overton, who starts tomorrow has a stat line of 18 innings, 34 hits, 19 runs, an ERA of 9.33 and has given up 9 HRs. Batters are hitting .395 against him.
