Oh hell yes. A 37 year old veteran who hasn't played in the big leagues in months coming back to save the day.

Has he picked out his new walkup song yet? Can't imagine they will keep playing his whore of a wife's rendition of Benny and the Jets.

2 1/2 back and now going on the road...where this team has been one of the worst in baseball...with not many games left. If this isn't panic time what is? 2 1/2 games can become 8 1/2 really fast...and this team has shown zero evidence that it has some big run yet to come. This game was like one of Pat Hughes' bad calls where he makes it sound like a big hit....but it's caught at the warning track. All the momentum after Schwarbers unlikely home run...and still can't get it done.... at home no less. This is most likely the death knell for this underachieving clown show.

Not only do the Cubs go on the road against the Mets, they will have to face Stroman, Thor, and deGrom. Do the Cubs even get a hit against those guys?

Can't wait to hear Theo's tough guy speech at the end of the season. How it's time to produce...and he really means it this time. 2nd highest payroll in baseball...and THIS GARBAGE is the best he could do with it? Shameful.

Theo: "Changes are coming, I promise you that." He will sign another backup catcher and a couple bullpen guys.

With the 2nd highest payroll in baseball..you would think that a halfway competent GM could construct a lineup that might be somewhere in the same universe as this Nationals team...who just lost a hall of fame hitter in his prime. They are just so much better than the Cubs and it's so damn obvious. Rendon...Soto...Turner...etc etc.....and we counter with a bunch of underachieving myths. Their pitching is light years better.....and their lineup makes the Cubs look like a single A team compared to them. 2nd highest payroll in baseball. Think about that.

Yeah. A couple of bullpen guys who suck... like Brach....and he'll bring some lame asses from triple A. Oh..but this dangerous "core" of the Cubs. Ooooh. Scary. In reality...Bryant, Rizzo, Baez and Contreras don't even come close to the "cores" of over half the national league. There's nothing worse than watching this 2 year long Bataan Death March as this team limps toward the end of another gravely disappointing season. No farm system...money already spent...and wasted by Theo. It's just friggin sad.

When Maddon says "I really sincerely believe that"...I just don't buy it anymore. What he "sincerely believes" holds absolutely zero weight at this point. Granted...the most blame for this lost season is squarely on Theo and misspending so disgustingly.... the 2nd highest payroll in baseball. I mean..just look at the Nats and their payroll...and then look at that lineup compared to the Cubs. It's ridiculous.

Maddon is a lame duck coach at this point. His words are meaningless and his players know it.

A lot of the usual posters have all but disappeared from these Cubs threads. People jumping ship maybe.

They're starting to realize what I've been telling them all along..
They're a 85 win team, and a 500 team since beginning of May..

Inconsistencies all up and down this roster with a lame duck manager running it..

What is the point of your post? Do you realize STL is gaining ground on us?
I can't tell. Is this one of those "everybody is freaking out for nothing" posts? This team is 2 1/2 games out with the arrow squarely pointed DOWN. The "we'll be fine' crowd was humbled last year when Cubs choked away the division in the last week...leading to tough guy Theo saying how there would be all this "accountability" BS. Yeah...sure. Whatever. If people are just happy with being a little over .500...but in 3rd place... then fine. Have fun with that. We've been waiting 2 years for this overrated circus to "turn it on like we know they can do"...and guess what? It hasn't happened. Any reasonably sane person would conclude that it isn't gonna happen. I am just so disappointed and pissed off at what Theo has crafted together as a roster....having all the money in the world to build a champion....and instead giving us THIS garbage. 8 games over .500 and 2 1/2 games out in the weakest division in baseball? THAT is the best you could do?

And everyone is shaking about having to face Stroman now....even though he has a 3 plus ERA...but it's this weak ass lineup facing him so...yeah. I get the fear this gutless lineup must feel now.

Do you know if Fred actually followed through with that, you could be charged with involuntary manslaughter?
