In ten days someone will sign him, probably an AL club that won't catch him much or at all using him at DH and maybe figuring out if he can play 1B. He's slashing .286/.366/.439, and all he'll cost is the prorated minimum. If someone doesn't pick him up I'd be shocked. shit at that price you try him for a month and if it fails you're no worse for it.

When the Cubs acquired Lester and Montero close together, I recall reading that Montero's framing could have as much effect, or close anyway, as Lester's pitching.

We won 200 games in 2 years with him catching, and had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finisher in Cy Young voting in two seasons.

This year pitchers are nowhere close.

Not all his doing when great, nor is it 100% Contreras' effect now. But don't kid yourselves, our pitching was far better w Miggy. That is fact.

Unless I've missed something that's never been his rep. He did a drunken interview post World Series where he said things he shouldn't and then last night. I can't imagine two issues in a 12 year career will make any difference for a club looking for bench help.

There is 2 ways of handling this.

Sign pitchers with stuff vs finess. Jake having a lower era with Miggy vs Contreras. Which basically means he has lost 5 MPH and has to play the black vs over the white. Well how about targeting a pitcher that can go over the white with out worrying about getting wrecked.

How about throwing curves for strikes.

How about changing speeds to keep them off balance.

How about being a pitcher and attacking hit zones vs hoping your catcher can fool blue.

In other words, in this era of lazy umps fooled by framing, stop framing, and catch more of the heart of the plate. That's a terrible plan.

Not at all. It is more to do with change of velocity and throwing your off speed for a strike.

If you have a 95 fastball and a 80 mph change and are able to desguise it hitters are going to be guessing there.

If you also have a 85 mph slider and a 77 mph curve again it puts the hitters on the guessing game.

But if you are depending on blue to give you freebies vs winning the battle vs the hitter? Sounds like you were not that good to begin with
