IST: Mets vs Cubs

It's almost as if the Cubs are a great second half team.

Last year after 130 games, 70-60. This year after 130 games 77-53. Last year in August they played at a .586 clip, this year .667. The pitching has been very solid, the defense continues to be good and the offense is going off. There are 5 weeks left in the season. The rule of thumb is that you can make up about a game a week down the stretch by playing well. they have a 5 game advantage in the loss column over St. Louis, 6 over Milwaukee and 4 over Atlanta for the overall NL lead. Not insurmountable for any of those teams but getting tougher by the day. I think if the Cubs can pick up another game or two in the next week or so the Division will be effectively wrapped up, likely the overall NL record as well.

Translation: Hamels and Murphy were genius. Cubs were 10-8 before adding Murphy. 6-0 after. In reality that was a impact move.

And the whole losing D is over played. out scored 44-15 over 6 games. 57-68 over the 18 games leading into it. Bunch of overplayed hogwash.

Said this during the detroit IST but this is literally on pace to be one of the top 5 cubs teams in most of our life times as they have only won 94+ games 4 times since 1950. Once in the 80s(Think it was 84), 2008, 2015 and 16 and now this year.
