Lackey: 40 balls. 66 strikes. Ended up with 5 walks vs 4 SO.

It just seems like teams are going into games looking to take pitches and force the issue and the starters are paying for it. Except Hendricks who has had excellent command.

Even Jake has said he was falling behind in the count. Which leads me to believe that is the strat vs the Cubs now. Wait vs attack at the plate.

Finally Adam Warren starting!! This guy will likely go 6 or 7 quality innings giving up less than 4 runs. The Cubs are going to jump on them in the first inning and Im think 2 or 3-0 going into the 2nd and Warren shuts them down pretty much although there are some real quality hitters in this lineup. Its not really the total joke team its made out to be. They have swept good teams on the road and a couple of their guys are .300+ BA with high OPS's lke .800!!

Even though we have totally owned to Reds this year. We've won 6 out of 8 games by over 57 runs. So Im thinking tomorrow will be another "pile on" type games that are fun to watch because we get to see the Cubs if they could hit to their average against all pitchers and not have some that completely shut them down. But its always been road games. I have never felt out of any home game when were batting in the bottom of the 7th, 8th,and 9th with a slight deficit or a small lead. The Cubs have owned good opponents at home this year for sure.

@TommyBirch: Word around the park is that Tommy La Stella's rehab assignment with the Iowa #Cubs has come to a close. Look for him to be activated soon.

Candelario most likely goes back down...

Cubs really need to get to the all star break for a rest. Mentioned it before and I believe they play like 24 days straight. That's absolutely brutal at any point but when you're also suffering injuries shit gets ugly fast. I'm far beyond preaching patience to some in this crowd but I'd wager part of this ugly stretch was lack of days off.

Only thing I don't like about it is it takes AB's away from Baez.

More like depending on role players due to injury. The staff I believe needs a few days off for sure but the line up gets rotated plenty. Most of these guys get a break. The guy that has been over played is Bryant but you would never know it with his production.

I'm going on the over for 50 HR myself

Wait til Fowler returns..

Contreras will lose ABs too, if they insist on playing Montero and Ross

Maddon, Epstein and Hoyer are going to really need to figure out their roster during the break..

Plus, not sure when he suppose to return but Soler going to cost someone ABs...

Why I think there going to be a trade or two coming up soon , once these guys come back from DL

Only other guy I can see being sent down beside Candelario is Almora. Cogs could get released or sent down if he accepts

Unless they go with 13 position players

I mean fair enough but Montero seems like he needs time off to figure some crap out. It's not always the literal in game stuff that is a grind. Being in a different city every 3 or so days with travel can be hell.

I love Contreras and he seems to click with Hendricks right now. But seeing him in LF with Ross catching Lackey says something. They did not click on their last game together. Montero is not much of a hitter anymore. But his knowlege should prove valuable to Contreras this and next year. I don't see Schwarber getting much time at catcher next year. It seems smarter to go forward with Contreras.

They need Fowler back.

I see it as
Fowler CF
Heyward RF (Moved down to get a vet bat around the youth)
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Zorbrist 2B (back to his RBI production spot. Which was missed with Fowler out)
Russell SS (he seems to be getting hot now. Up to 11 HR's and doing it with guys on base)
Contreras LF (ya I expect him to catch some thus getting some AB's to LaStella/Baez)
Montero/Ross Catcher. (I see Hendricks and Contreras matching up. Rest fall on these 2.)

Baez and LaStella become the primary used 2 guys on switches and giving days off. With the summer in full tilt I expect to see a rotation.

I still think they need to trade for Rich Hill...wow I just said that....but it makes sense to get a dependable 6th man in the rotation. Seeing how most of the rotation just are not right (out side of Hendricks) it makes sense to go there. And Warren is really not a great answer. He is another RH in a heavy RH staff that is not over powering. Even Maddon did not say he would continue with him post ASG. This is more about getting the staff a blow on a stretch vs anything else. But Hill IMO holds strong value this year. Any starter that falters, in any way, can be put into the pen. Looking at Hammel.

Just my opinion. But sure the pen looks shakey. But I think of it as with a 6 day rotation and 1 day off per week on avg it puts guys on a 1 per week. This allows the starters to be able to go deeper into games. So that 100 pitch limit could become a 120 pitch limit. More like how Japan goes about it. That takes the middle inning guys and pushes them into more of a mop up situational pitching vs gap fillers to the set up man.
