Castro is trade bait? Where do people come up with this stuff? Castro is not going anywhere except the 6 hole in the cubs lineup next season. He is a 3x AS not in the prime power years yet. While Castro could have hustled more, as Renteria mentioned, he has a lot on his mind right now. I'm surprised he has produced as well as he has the past couple of games.

Because people like the new thing. They fail to realize that probably 2/3 of these prospects will be below major league average. So, they pencil in players and forget about the guys who have solidified themselves.

I'd much rather have him in the 2 hole. I think that's Castro's best spot in the line-up

I think he makes a really good 2 hitter, but in the lineup the Cubs will have next season, I think Soler's plate approach is better in the 2 and Castro in the 6.

To the Cubs, this Axelrod is like Cy Young......in reality, he's a stiff that couldn't even keep a spot on the White Sox sorryass staff.

Baseball is one damn strange game.

That could depend on if they get what they are looking for IF they decide to trade him. In reality, they could probably get a pitcher in the 24 to 25 year old range for him (lets say Zach Wheeler type), and possibly beef up the staff that way coupled with pursuing a TOR pitcher.

Then they could throw Javy at SS for a year (suffering on the defensive side), Alcantara back to 2B, Coghlan in CF, Soler in RF, and pick up (depending how much money they would spend) another outfielder ranging from (Melky Cabrera or Aoki) to fill the other outfield spot.

One would have to decide if a line-up, lets say looks like this, if you think the Cubs could make a playoff push?

Coghlan CF
Cabrera/Aoki LF
Rizzo 1B
Bryant 3B
Soler RF
Baez SS
Alcantara 2B
Castillo C

Lester/Shields
Arrieta
Wheeler (Type)
Hendricks
Wood

Bullpen

They should certainly have the funds to do so.

I can definitely see that. But I think Soler is a good enough bat to protect Rizzo and bat 4th and hopefully Baez can get things figured out and bat 5th. Maybe it's just wishful thinking at this point

I guess we will just agree to disagree here on baez..

One run or tie game then yes he should be half way to be able to score easy to tie it up or take lead.
Cause your right he still in scoring position at 2B if ball is caught.

Being they were down two, him looking to tag if ball was caught ,IMO was acceptable.

Castro being the tie run in that situation, not making it to 2B because he watched and then jogged on top of that was unacceptable.

I think it could certainly be argued both ways. To me, the whole team is playing tired. I think the heat and the long rain delays have affected them a little. The rash of poor defense is a good example, along with the mental mistakes.

I'll be fine with Castro in the 6 hole. However, you'd have to be foolish to not see he is the Cubs best trade asset. There is a replacement for him coming up, and he's got a pretty hefty salary. If he can get us a 2nd Ace via a trade, I won't be mad.

Perhaps you've forgotten that Bryant will be in the lineup about a month into 2015?

Castro has cost 5 million this year. He has outperformed his contract already in his highest paying year. He is not even in his prime. Castro could be traded but it would be for a tor starter. It's cubs fans that devalue Castro. Not the league hence why he was voted in by players for the all star game.

Earliest castro could be traded would be off season 2015 and that only if they feel they have a guaranteed better replacement and only for a TOR starter

And as it stands the tor >>> Castro

For a proven TOR yes. For a AA-AAA projected TOR he is worth that trade. His wOBA is above league avg at SS. He holds solid trade value.

I agree. Fans get pissed about his short commings and don't look to see that he is better than most SS's in the league.

Cubs fans are spoiled right now with the over load in SS talent going on. Most team do not has a scratch of what the Cubs have in SS depth.
