I just don't agree with this (Nemesis!!). Look at last night's game, for example. The Hawks were already missing two of their better PKers in Hossa and Pisani to start with, then they were down a forward via Kane's injury, yet Dowell (one of the stronger PKers remaining) drops the gloves and absents himself for 5 minutes? That didn't seem very smart to me under the circumstances -- indeed, the timing and circumstances were much worse than for Boynton's fight (where we're talking only about momentum).

I know it's difficult for the player to refuse a fight because nobody wants to look like a wimp, but they've got to think about the circumstances, IMO.

Dowell's fight was entirely necessary, it was getting chippy out there and the fight calmed it all down.

But it should have been done by someone other than Dowell, IMO.

I know you lose his PK ability with him in the box but who would you rather have fight instead?

Exactly. Who do we have beside's Scott that can throw hands with any skill. Dowell is a capable fighter, might not great but he's as good as Eager was.

Scott was on the ice at the time.

Code...Scott has to go with a heavy. If the Flames don't have any heavies on the ice Scott can't fight a different class. Dowell though he is big isn't a heavy he's like a middleweight so he went with a middleweight.
