I think Cub fans pressure the team too much by expecting championships every year. I think if NOBODY expected anything from them, they'd win.

tell that to every franchise that hasnt won shit in forever.

I don't really think players feel the pressure of how long its been since the last world series. I think the pressure comes from being in a top media market and a close to full stadium on a daily basis.

I don't see how that prevents championships though, Yankees win a lot.

Well ya, I don't think it prevents winning either but thats where i think the pressure comes from.

The Yankees also invest more into their product than the Cubs. Its all about the players. Guys will crack under pressure but the more often you are there, the more likely it is you will win a championship IMO.

We should be in the playoffs a lot more than we are given our financial superiority over our division then.

Should we though? We've been in 4/8 years, how many other teams have done better than that? Yankees, Red Sox, Angels? We've done quite well.

True words. Yet some praise Jim Hendry. :dunno:

How is it Hendry's fault that DLee and Rami got injured last year? That's why I don't have a problem with Hendry. He can't predict injuries.

3 postseasons in the last 8 years by my count...Must be the new math those damn math teachers are teaching. You'd have to go back 13 years to reach #4.

I don't remember stating anything about last year. Did I?

Injuries have been a thorn for the Cubs for a long time... Mostly because of putting too much stock into Prior and Wood.

The lack of depth is on Hendry but key guys have gone down in every bad Cubs season since Hendry has been there.

Ok, you're right, but this is an excuse...for exactly what you said - a team's lack of depth...which falls on the team's general manager. It's not unreasonable for one to think that shelling out $30-50 million per year beyond the nearest competitor would make up for said lack of depth.

My bad, I was thinking of 2004 as that 4th season. We should have made the playoffs then.

I was just using last year as an example. Addison is right, when players get injured, we suffer. Yeah, we could have more depth, but that would mean that our starters wouldn't be as good or we would have a higher payroll.

You can only have so much position depth.. I was mostly talking about pitching depth. If a big bat goes down like Lee did in 06 or Aram in 09 its going to be tough to replace the production.
