WHY? why do we have to bring this back up? One of the worst nights of my life... But Addison and i had a talk before for us "younger cubs fans" it was our right of passage into the "have your heart ripped out club" I dont cry about my sports teams losing but that night i may have dropped a tear or two.

Oh i remember that night very vividly but being that close made for high 04 expectations and to not even make the playoffs with a strong team was sickening....

as an outsider i would have figured 08 would have been worse than 04, I thought the 08 team was just sick.

08 team was nasty but we ran into "fat dreads" and it was over almost as quick as it started. But for me was 07 was worse. We lost to the fucking d-bags and what was worse addison and i were at the gd game when we were swept.

08 was really tough but it was quick like a guillotine. Just got a sniff and it was over... 04 I remember the magic number signs coming out with about 2 weeks to go aaaaaand boom outta here.

I think about what could have been with that 04 team all the time... It really bothers me lol.

Should we though? We've been in 4/8 years, how many other teams have done better than that? Yankees, Red Sox, Angels? We've done quite well.

How is it Hendry's fault that DLee and Rami got injured last year? That's why I don't have a problem with Hendry. He can't predict injuries.

Are you really blaming last year on Lee an Ramirez being hurt?

But if they get, "You haven't won in 100 years", that isn't their fault that their predecessors couldn't get it done, but the pressure falls onto them.

I agree that it is not their fault but I have to believe talent should take over and outweigh the pressure.

I dont think fans as a whole expect enough from the Cubs.

Expectations for a Cub fan always bring disappointments. Therefore, many fans of this team stopped expecting anything with respect to W/L record etc. It's insulates some of us against the inevitable collapses, call it the polar opposite the "There's always hope" bullshit outlook that never happens.

What we do expect(as any fan should)is 100% effort dedicated to the sport they play for lots of $$. I almost just typed that Guillen gets more out his players than previous Cubs managers, but that's wrong. It's the players responsibility to self-motivate. And that's why the past several seasons have been a joke on the north side...too many players there for a check.

The Cubs of 2006-9=the current Chicago Bear DL...overpaid underachievers.

I think they should feel pressure....they are professionals making ungodly amounts of money to perform. If you don't perform they should be able to fire you and cancel the multi-year deal just like in any other profession.

Absolutely, guaranteed contracts have ruined the game.

Well ya, I don't think it prevents winning either but thats where i think the pressure comes from.

The Yankees also invest more into their product than the Cubs. Its all about the players. Guys will crack under pressure but the more often you are there, the more likely it is you will win a championship IMO.

True, the Yanks have a huge payroll but it hasn't brought them the amount of rings it should. The Marlins did it twice with no payroll. There has to be a happy medium or mix of moderate spending coupled with a very good farm system.

Wish I had the answers...lol

What do you blame it on? The SP? The OF?

The bullpen at first, then later it came together and we began winning. We were always a run shy of tying it, so Lee and A-Ram should have been doing better, but Lee was traded and A-Ram came around. It wasn't just them being hurt. If they were on the DL all season, i'd give it more credit.

You are blaming a season of bad baseball on the bullpen? Go read your post, look at how you contradict yourself. The beginning of the year we weren't too good, then we turned it around, okay. That's when Lee and Ramirez were sucking. The production out of 1B and 3B was absolutely awful for us. Our 1B managed a whole .2 WAR, while 3B managed 2.2 WAR. That's about two and a half wins out of two of the biggest positions in the line up.

I know, my point is that the rest of the team wasn't that good either.

Which part of the team is that? The SPing that had the most QS's? The OF that is above average? The young studly SS and C? Last year falls onto Lee and Ramirez being injured. While we may not have made the playoffs last year, we wouldn't have sucked balls. Personally, I think more of it falls on Lou and his dumbassery, but as far players, it's Lee and Rami.

I agree but the bullpen was really bad too. Sans marshall and marmol
