Probably a win win situation for both teams. Blackhawks need some stability on the back end and Erixon is going to get a chance to do that. Morin was given chances but just wasn't able to stick in the bottom 6 due to inconsistency and lack of defense. Was always a fan of Morin the prospect, reminded me of Brouwer in a lot of ways but he just couldn't translate it over to the NHL.

Saying the Blackhawks fleeced CBJ, saying Morin is a shithead, etc...is, well a bit extreme at this point.

It's also a bit true. Morin is awful.

Not sure how you got Brouwer from Morin.

I don't mind the trade. It gives the Hawks a puck moving dman in Erixon for the price of Morin who wasn't going to play here and was losing value. Erixon gives the Hawks a bottom pairing D man that they've needed since Leddy left and gives Dahlback more time in the A.

It's pretty easy...they were very, very similar players in the AHL. Both of them tore up the AHL, both are shoot first guys, both aren't afraid to throw the body around, and both needed to work on their defense and skating to stick in the NHL. Brouwer eventually got it...Morin hasn't yet.

Eh, I think Morin has more skill than Brouwer, just couldn't fit in as a bottom 6 guy.

The trade saves a bit of cap space too.

Ehh...who knows where Morin will end up. Honestly he wasn't going to do much for the 'hawks and the fact that Erixon looked better than any 5-6 D-man not named Trevor VanReimsdyk makes this a good move. Granted, a 1-game sample size is nothing but still, he wasn't bad-noticible against the flamers.

We freed up cap space not only this year but next, got an upgrade in our 3rd D pair, and moved a forward who wasn't going to help us in the role he was being used as. It's a win - win.

True.... but I still saw the vomit inducting quote somewhere of (to paraphrase) "He looked pretty good out there with Rosi, I think they make a good pair"....

Sorry Rosi is on my short list of please go away. I don't hate him. I just want him to go away.

You'll find out here soon enough, although Brouwer has the more experience so it will be hard to compare him.

I'm really surprised the Hawks were not investigated on this scenario.

Well... the guy who was looking into it got the mumps....

I haven't once seen Morin play where I thought he reminded me of Brouwer. Brouwer as we mentioned didn't have the upside skillset that Morin has but he was much more physical and could drive to the net better. I believe he even dropped the gloves a bit, I just don't see Morin doing anything other than trying get the easy goals. Sure I'm biased. But I'd take Brouwer over anything Morin has done.

honestly I don't think Morin ever had the right slot here. Brouwer was given far more opportunity.

Both were very good AHL producers, mediocre NHL producers. Although Brouwers responsibility/Role has been greatly enhanced in Washington. Will be interesting to see what role Morin is given in CBUS. I'm sure he's much happier there than he would be in say Edmonton/Buffalo where he'd have gone if they'd legitimately put him on waivers like the rules say.

I ask this not as a rhetorical statement but as one that I'm curious to see if anyone has an answer.

Have any players that have left the Hawks in the past 5-6 years gone on to have more success with their new teams? Because I'm not finding an instance of it happening yet.

Pirri and Jimmy Hayes have had some success. I think with the young players still developing it takes longer to gauge how they will pan out. It's a lot different though when you are playing on a stacked team vs a majority of the rest of the NHL.

For some of those young guys just getting more ice time to develop is considered success. Jeremy sitting on the bench in Chicago was certainly not doing him well and they could not waive him as he would have been plucked.

It depends on what you mean by success... I mean.... as much as here? Maybe not, but there were a lot of quality guys from that first cup that went on. Ladd become a captain at what is now the Jets... Frazier won a cup with the Kings right? Skille... wait.. no... who else. I'm sure there are a good handful but it's hard to say because the team has had so much sucess lately that it's hard for them to continue that on shitier teams.

there there is Vrbata who is now lighting it up with the twins but that's outside that 5-6 year range.

oh he lit it up with the Coyotes as well, but he didn't have a good experience with the Bolts. So many tangibles factor in there it's hard to gauge.
