oh he lit it up with the Coyotes as well, but he didn't have a good experience with the Bolts. So many tangibles factor in there it's hard to gauge.

Oh indeed. But I thought he only had one or two solid years there and it was because they didn't have anything else? I hate to say it, but he was always a favorite of mine.

That guy always killed me. He'd have like 200 shots for the year and 17 goals. No hesitation in shooting the puck.

Rene Borque comes to mind. He had a few flashes in Calgary but just like here his arrogance got him there.

Pirri and Jimmy Hayes have had some success. I think with the young players still developing it takes longer to gauge how they will pan out. It's a lot different though when you are playing on a stacked team vs a majority of the rest of the NHL.

For some of those young guys just getting more ice time to develop is considered success. Jeremy sitting on the bench in Chicago was certainly not doing him well and they could not waive him as he would have been plucked.

Agreed on the young players. Just saw Pirri's numbers weren't all that impressive in Florida so far but didn't think that meant he was a guaranteed failure.

It depends on what you mean by success... I mean.... as much as here? Maybe not, but there were a lot of quality guys from that first cup that went on. Ladd become a captain at what is now the Jets... Frazier won a cup with the Kings right? Skille... wait.. no... who else. I'm sure there are a good handful but it's hard to say because the team has had so much sucess lately that it's hard for them to continue that on shitier teams.

there there is Vrbata who is now lighting it up with the twins but that's outside that 5-6 year range.

Ladd is one I forgot. He's been great up in Winnipeg. It's a pipe dream, I know, but I'd take him back on the Hawks in a heartbeat.

Remember with Ladd though he's on a different level. He had his name on the Cup twice when arriving in Atlanta and probably the Worst of the salary cap crunch after 2010.

Buff has done pretty well in Winnipeg as well. With Core players it's easier to judge as they were KEY in why the Hawks won said cups. Also Bolland was clearly missing in last years playoffs, especially vs LA, but I don't think his numbers would ever reflect quite why.

Hah! The swedish chef indeed is also the other person I most closely relate to Vrbata.

I just remember "He shoots and misses" "He shoots and misses"...

Probably why he doesn't have any children.

At no point since he left have I not wished for Ladd to be back on this team. Loved that guy...

As for Buff, I was going to bring him up but I'd honestly have to look up how well he's been doing because all I can visualize is him at 300 lbs in his purple Maserati.

Brouwer as we mentioned didn't have the upside skillset that Morin has but he was much more physical and could drive to the net better. I believe he even dropped the gloves a bit...

Yes, yes he did. This will always be my favorite Brouwer moment, especially at the :18 second mark

I remember doing a write up on Brouwer for IHN when he came up and used that video. Got Richards pretty good.

Not sure about that one either. Morin can fight and will. Id probably say physically they are probably pretty close. Again I don't think Q had a spot for Morin to play to show us his skill set in Chicago. He was specifically signed as insurance in case Versteeg didn't pan out the way he has. Even they weren't sure Versteeg would return to form as he has. Most of the Q detractors, related to the organization in some way, were extremely pissed Versteeg (who was just awful) was played over Morin in the Kings series.

Hind sight, and games like last night, the Versteeg move has so far played out VERY WELL.

He leads the Hawks in +/- 14, which having the highest on the team means something even if it's a skewed stats when low one way or the other.

Absolutely. He's the only player we "lost" in the 2010 postseason purge that caused me to punch random things.

Didn't Morin have a pretty huge setback in Rockford after he suffered a rather serious concussion in a fight during one of those Hogs/Wolves brawls a few years back?

Versteeg is playing well enough now to actually justify his dumb contract that we're only paying half off... at half he's even more of a bargin.

The fact we are only paying half means that's probably the most lucrative contract on the team.

I believe he had a couple including the concussion Dmelt. He also had a couple of physical injury. Q plays favoritism clearly. So that equates into Morin as well. Plus, lets be real, this is one of the deepest teams in the league no question. When a guy like Sharp comes back from injury and theres NO spot to put him in the top 6, you have serious depth.
