There certainly aren't 10+ rfa/ufa signings that the Blackhawks need to make in order to fill in the roster for next year. Plenty of RFA/UFA guys but some will walk, some will be offered 2 way contracts, some will sign, and some may be traded.

It may be more logical cap wise to let a AHL Dman fill the #4 spot...but I can assure you that there is no one at Rockford that is ready to fill that shut down position like Oduya does. Blackhawks have plenty of AHL guys that are showing they are getting close to the NHL, but there is a huge difference from an AHL rookie to a veteran like Oduya. As I said, was told basically 50/50 because there is A LOT that is going to be figured out come summer. I would expect Bickell and Sharp could be two guys who may be moved and may be the Blackhawks preference when looking at the cap and what they can "afford" to lose.

6-7 players that have everyday roles, and if 10 and 29 were on the block, then add them to that list of what you have to fill, unless you're getting back prospects/picks that are easy on the cap (AHL), or no cap hit at all. If you like Darling, that's one more-- which makes sense to have him over Leighton developing in the AHL once Craw/Raanta are the healthy 1/2.

That pairing is only a "shutdown" pairing because Hammer is on it. It has so little to do with Oduya it's ridiculous. Oduya has regressed this season and I would not want him back next year. It's Rozsival all over. It's time to see what you have in the system and let Oduya go.

I agree with Pez, even though Hammer is in the top 10 for turnovers he's the shutdown guy on that line. Oduya is a by product. I bet you could put Roszival with Hammer and have almost the same production from that pair. Unless Oduya is going to come back for no more than 1.5 million, I wouldn't waste my time.

I think if anyone means losing Keith or Seabs, buh bye. To me just seems foolish to break those guys up until they are old men

It wouldn't mean that. The Blackhawks will not be keeping Oduya at the expense of Seabrook.

If keeping _______________________ means loosing Seabrook, goodbye __________________________.

About the only name you could plug in that would give me pause is Sharp and I would still lean toward keeping Seabrook. And Sharp is one of my favorite Blackhawks.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
It is certainly not a foregone conclusion that Oduya is gone after this year. I said it before, but I was told right around the Leddy trade that Oduya kind of told the Hawks that he would be open to a "hometown" discount. Could have influenced the Leddy trade a bit and is probably still 50/50 at best with the probable cap situation but Q likes his veterans and there could be a deal to be had.
In order for it to work, Oduya has to be under 2M, the cap has to be at least 71M, and Saad and/or Kruger have to be on the low-side.

IMHO it's not whether or not that Oduya will take a discount, but how much of a discount will he take.
Wait, what?
My apologies--that comment about the grotesque avatar was supposed to go to Rosh.

How much do you think Oduya will sign for then? Realistically someone's going to have to go or not be re-signed. Oduya to me will be that guy on the back end.

I fully expect Rozsival to get his walking papers as I'm pretty sure most will safely assume that for now. Oduya right now carries a cap hit of 3.375mil. In my opinion, atleast one of Bickell and Sharp are gone. You have Kruger and Saad who will need to be signed (the two important rfa's), but what type of contract do they want to sign, can they sign, and vice versa with the Blackhawks? Will we see a long term or a bridge contract? There are so many factors that are going into this that it is almost impossible to figure out. My guess is that Oduya would have to sign for approximately 2.5mil to make things work at the end of the day but that is only if other things happen this summer. Will it happen? I have absolutely no idea...just know there was hometown discount talk but wasn't given any figures at all.

How open?
http://capgeek.com/comparables/?player_id=782

Even if he signed for Richards money, there isn't enough to toss around for the 10+ RFA/UFA openings. It seems more logical to see someone from the AHL fill that opening. It will be interesting to see.

Who said that?

Me.

And Oduya would be on the list as the 4th if needed due to Saads contract. Sharp-Bickell-Rozival and then if needed, and not taking a discount to stay, Oduya.

I would say both are gone. #10 would have been gone in July if not for his LNT clause.

All of the contracts are movable IMO, even Bickell.
