In a crap economy it is tough.

I am poking around for a new job. I am currently self employed, and the fella I work for has shown that he doesn't really seem to appreciate the work I do. I feel it may be time to move on.

Problem is, I fall into that category that a lot of us do. i am highly skilled at being "unskilled labor". I don't know about computers, save for getting to IHN, looking up porn, and checking out woot.com and dealnews.com. An office job doesn't suit my talents, and I would fall asleep in an office environment. Let's be honest, could you see me at a desk?

I do have a CDL class be license. That means I can drive almost any truck 'cept a semi. I like driving, and I tend to think I do it well. I used to work at a bottle water deliver company, for legal reasons, I won't mention them by name. Let me C, if I golf, I may MULLIGAN. That was fine, actually paid decent, however, they started trying to make us sell stuff. I get they are a business, but I can't sell anything if I don't believe in it, and honestly, I don't think anyone is/should pay $13.00 for a 24 pack of bottled water.

So, let the hunting begin. If anyone hears of any openings, feel free to post it here too. Even if it doesn't fit my idea of a good job for me, some others that check out this thread may see a good fit for them.

Do you have your own vehicle/trailer to go with the CDL?

Consider being a taxi driver?

I have looked into UPS before, however, when i do see stuff for them, it is always part time loaders. Maybe I just miss when they hire drivers, but I need full time what to pay my mortgage and support the nasty habit I have of liking to eat.

I would be too good at being a fluffer, and cause the money shot before they start filming.

I only have my little car, I don't own a straight truck. That would be a big expense and not sure if I would want to deal with that.

I have thought about moving out of this focacta state. Maybe Colorado or the Pac NW. That way i could bother Howcho, Lord, and TCD way more. That would almost be worth it.

Jako... from what I've heard about UPS... if you want to be a driver you have to start as a loader. No matter how qualified you are, you have. To spend a certain amount of time as a loader and probably some other jobs in the company.

UPS and FedEx generally dont hire drivers from the outside, they promote to driver from within when I worked at UPS as I recall it was the same way. A buddy of mine was on a waiting list at fedex for 5 years before he became a driver.

I still like the idea of Self Employment.

Perhaps this might be your line of work?

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I'll keep my ear to the ground but right now it's pretty light.

Yeah, I don't need to be part time for that long.

I understand working your way up, and that does make sense and I don't fault them at all for doing that. It is seemingly smart.

The place I'm working at has an opening -- however, I'm not sure if the pay is up to your standards.

Plus it's in Downers Grove-- so the drive (albeit 355) would be long.

I wish I knew what pay grade 9 was. I could do that job, I practically do all that now, save for a few things. I wouldn't want to apply and waste their time if I am hesitant to take it because the pay. Living in Round Lake and driving down to Downers Grove would require a lot of fuel, and that is quite pricey nowadays.
