My two cents....

This place is a evolving community. People come and go. People know each other outside the boards and through the boards. People dislike others and or have normal disfunctional family activities with certain members. It's inevitable.

There were a couple of reasons IHN was formed and originally there were 4 of us involved. First because NHTA had been removed from the Officials, which in itself was going through a huge transformation with the change in Management with the orgnaization. Another was the freedom to type what one would like without the massive Censorship that came with the Organization run site. Third to have the ability to negate those that were just there to stop the flow of the Community. Users like Tunez, or Frank, or ColdSteel that's only purpose was to troll and disrupt the flow.

That said as IHN evolved as any community there were those that had problems with others. Like any normal family. In fact names brought up above were prime examples of those that left because others remained that they did not like. It happens on EVERY one of the Hawk message boards. I am a member and read them all, except the officials most of the time, which I hardly log in.

If you want no moderation that is fine. Most of us would gladly quit or not really do any changing of anything, but as a team we discuss what would be best for the community as a whole. There is hardly ANYTHING ever deleted and a personal folder all mods can see, where ANYTHING deleted is public for those moderators. I believe there are about 20 posts in there that have been currently deleted over the past couple of months. You can't have your cake and eat it too. It doesn't work that way. I will not throw anyone under the bus but there are those that often have a problem or think something has crossed the line. With that most of the time it's just something deleted verses actually warning someone.

Lets go through some quick facts here.

In the History of IHN there have 5 posters Banned.

Flowers

Dirk

FrankG---Joined about 20 times under different names

Sonny--Clearly fell off the bus

Fluff-I miss Wiz

<edit 7> I left out Ryne or what ever his name was. He was banned on three different games. I also left out Tunez two names. He was just here messing with peoples plus minus and bad mouthing IHN on the officials.

There have been maybe 10 warnings to individuals through the entire 2 1/2 years given.

There has been very little moderation although I keep seeing people say there has. People will come and go. People will like and dislike others and make decisions on their own.

Some have left and come back. Some have never come back. Some have posted other places and have done so long ago. Millers has about 15 constant users. I read there and it's a great place but does not have the traffic IHN has. IHN has 10-15 people on most of the day. The 300 level is the old BHZ group. Around long before most of us were on the officials. There are a good community of people there, who by the way have many of the same problems IHN does because it's a COMMUNITY and sometimes disfunctional.

I could care less what you all do. Infact I spoke with Tony about not moderating anymore last night and will like Frank just not have the time to do so. That said you will never keep the same trend no matter how hard you try.

Someone got it in their mind that Fluff was trolling. What the **** is "trolling"? To me, it's a meaningless word that allows mods to ban people for no reason.

Fluff might have been a screwball, but he made NHTA interesting, unlike the barrel of dead fish it is right now.

Funny thing, posts I made defending him here were deleted.

O. Henry would pop a woody at that one.

It was a decision by the people that run the site. It was unanimous. It was not a topic up for debate and was not just "ones" problem.

It was not "someone" there were five people in on the decision. Not one of them disagreed. If that is the type of debate you want, where everyone ends up telling the one to **** off, you are in the wrong place.

Well evolution has cost this place many of the posters that were here from the beginning.

This place has changed. People should be able to say whatever the hell they want with very little involvement from moderators.

I mean, really. How many mods does a tiny place like this fucking need? We have five??????

Who cares if threads get out of hand?

Again, "Ignore Button".

Because there are not mods on at all times. Could there be four, sure. Millers has about 15 users and two mods. Stuys has about 3 guys that do stuff.

You miss people that were here, then I suggest you get rid of some current folks because some of those are gone because others are still here. You can't control that.

And you damn well knew what I meant by one person always being told to **** off in his threads. It will never always be the same Jim.

I'll have some thoughts posted on all of this when I get home tonight.

Until then, don't burn the place down.

You can't possibly have missed the meaning in there. So point taken. Just because someone does not tell those to **** off when the majority doesn't get along with the individual at some point it's disruptive and also considered done on purpose.

This place can be moderated through the mail. What's the worst that's going to happen?

Sorry, but this place needs "freedom to", not "freedom from."

Dude Fuffle was the definition of trolling... there is literally no way a human being could be as clueless as that guy was and that's coming from the village co-idiot (I'm looking at you Jako).

Wrong! The people that had (have) issues with Fluff have the problem.

Don't like what he says? Tough. Freedom of speech is not based on either popularity or quality of opinion.

If that's why he was banned then the point of this thread has been made.

I don't really care about heavy handed moderation. That's the least of the reason why I hardly come around here anymore. If a post gets deleted before I get a chance to read it, I never even knew it existed in the first place, and frankly, I'm too busy to come to any website multiple times per day so I'm sure I'm missing more than I'm reading. If things are overly moderated, it's lost on me.

My reason for my decline in posting frequency is that I often speak my mind and, I agree with Puckjim, the culture here is overly contentious for my liking. In fact, I knew it was time to leave when I realized that "if I post this, I'm going to get ripped by 100 people on here, and I really don't want to deal with that." My views are often contrarian and unpopular, but I call it like I see it. Usually you have to have a thick skin to speak your mind, and I do, but the venom that was spewed my way in many of my posts just got me to realize that its not worth it. I can be a Hawks fan and have my own viewpoints and not have to deal with the shitstorm that I was dealing with when I was coming on here.

I hate to say this, but after leaving IHN for a while, I didn't miss it. I still don't. I miss the IHN that existed in the spring of last year, but that IHN doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Yes, the Hawks have struggled this year, so I understand that's the driving motivation behind many people's negative posting of late, but the Hawks W/L record shouldn't be the reason behind a lack of mutual respect that seems to permeate the boards of late.

If I say I hate Jack Skille, and I do, tell me why I am wrong. Give me statistics, talk about his work ethic or give me some inside knowledge to let me understand why I am thinking about things in the wrong way. Don't tell me I'm an idiot or that I shouldn't dislike him because he only makes $500K per year. Don't make it personal. It's super easy to hide behind the cloak of anonymity. We are all Hawk fans here. Lets bring back the civility.

But Evan who hides. Most of us know each other outside the boards.

And I don't completely disagree with Jim, I just don't think he understands all the little things that make people come and go. And if he did, just like Jako didn't I think his opinon would be slightly changed. That said I am not here to send anyone under the bus. So those issues with posters and other posters are theirs to deal with. And there are A LOT of them. Probably some with me, but then again I've only banned those that hurt the whole. The last two bannings were unanimous AND I have already pointed out how very few posts have been deleted. And there have been explinations given, just like Puck Jim got the other day for the message section that was delete.

And Evan there are a lot of times I have disagreed with you, but I have always respected your knowlege of the game and I think knowing you and our talks in real life have confirmed that knowlege.

That said Skille is working his ass off and for 500k he's just as good as anyone on this team last year making 500k. That was just for you. Oh and I'm wating for the Blues to cruise too.

Maybe he is clueless. Who knows?

You nor anyone else can prove trolling, which has ZERO meaning.

You didn't like him. Not a reason for banning.

When someone out there posts stuff soooo out there that maybe 1 person agrees with him every 3 Special person threads he made... it's pretty easy to see he's doing it on purpose.

This may be true Ron, but I have to admit that I usually bite my tongue if I have anything negative to say about Seabrook because I know you are going to rip my head off if I do. I know you don't mean for it to come off that way and its very difficult to convey context on a message board, but it often comes off as demeaning the way you retort to some posters. This was my opinion, and it was an opinion I didn't think others shared, that is until recently.

Sure but I won't ban you. We will just argue. I won't delete what you say about him.

I'm going to step down as mod. I'm not doing it anymore so you can take me out of the equation, but that said there are people that don't come here that do it not because of me.

I'm still going to be my same abrasive self. That won't change.

I actually disagree that he was trolling and I was probably his arch-nemesis. I've met people personally just like him, i have an aunt and uncle from texas who came to visit a few weeks ago and I was having fluffle flashbacks in our terrorism/muslim conversation. Some people really are that freaking closed minded and intolerant. I did actually like arguing with him, I thrived on the conflict.

IceHogsFan has a similar believe system to fluff(probably not as extreme), but he chooses to avoid those conversations, in debates I would actually prefer people not agree with me no matter how much I dont like what they have to say.

Normally I would have agree with that had I not watched him post as "Imiswiz" on the officials. He would always take it right to the line.

Again it was brought up people leaving and not posting. Well you can use Fluff as an example. I will because he gone but there are other examples. So one user causes multiple others to leave.
